Pros and Cons of VPS hosted SEO tools?

After reading this thread:

http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...ion-tools.html

It came to mind to ask, what are the pros vs. cons of buying these tool outright vs. using a VPS where they are preinstalled?

I have some of these tools, but for example, SEnuke X is more expensive per month than their (BlackcatVPS) most expensive hosting plan.

What am I missing? It sounds almost too good to be true.

I think the problem you're going to run into is lack of actual hosting technical support and dedication. It seems the providers listed in that thread, BlackVPS or something, only focus on the tools. I found no network or technical specifics, information or what they're doing to protect your data.

I run a hosting company, we don't sell VPS/Dedicated servers, but our main focus points are customer service, technical expertise & DR/HA. (Disaster Recovery/High Availability).

They could be doing all of this behind the scenes, I'm not sure. They don't seem to tell you anything about it though.

Upon searching BHScene VPS, the first link that comes up is "blackhatworld.com". You do the math.

BlackCatVPS - just tells you about the tools. Nothing specific on the infrastructure they're running on.

BHTDownloads - it seems their VPS service is "Black Hat VPS". Black hat stuff will end up screwing you in the long run. It could just be the way they name it, but unfortunately I wouldn't want my business associated with any shady operations/tactics. (nor do WE allow them)

Rule of thumb. If it sounds too good to be true, then it is.

Those are just my opinions, I'm not all that familiar with any of these companies.

Thanks, your initial reaction was very much the same as mine. Some of those tools can be used for gray hat and white hat purposes however, so it certainly has me intrigued.

Sure thing. Also, I wasn't implying that all of those tools are black hat. My expertise isn't in SEO, and half of them I've never even heard of. The ones I have heard of, I've never used. Again, based on the environments, that was the impression I got.

I'd recommend getting a server from a reputable company, and going from there. Especially if you're bringing customer data to the table. One thing we don't skimp on is backups.

Having used all three I want to jump in. I can vouch for technical support of both BHScene and BlackcatVPS, they are very prompt and friendly (not so much for bhtdownloads, as I pointed out in the other thread their support was terrible).

Additionally Blackcat does list technical specs, just copy pasting from their homepage BlackCat VPS it looks like they use Core i7 2x4x2.66GHz with 20GB SSD, 2.5GB (dedicated for each account) and 2TB of bandwidth - this is for the two higher plans, the Starter plan has worse specs.

I can tell you I had no problems with speed running my campaigns on both Blackcat and BHS, with probably Blackcat edging out BHS slightly.

Yes, it reads as a virtual desktop, not as a web host, which is fine for the intended purpose. So, you haven't noticed any lag issues, downtime, license issues with the software preinstalled or any other problems?

It might be worth trying out for a month, if so, just to act as insulation while trying out some some of the tools (most of the tools have trial versions, so there isn't much savings for a month).

It also seems like a perfect tool to assassinate other websites, if half the rumors are true about negative SEO, not that I intend to use it as such.

Yes, thats exactly what it is, you connect to it via remote desktop, and you have a control panel that you launch all the tools from. It's not a web host.

I did not experience any downtime or lag issues on Blackcat or BHS. Bhtdownloads seems to share memory and bandwidth across accounts, so in peak hours it was super slow, one of the many reasons why I would not recommend it.

Other than that I had some vb.net errors when using SeNuke on both BHS and Blackcat, and I had a couple times when software crashed, but this was very infrequent (I used Blackcat for a month and I used BHS since December). I think this was mostly due to their custom control panel. A mild inconvenience (keep in mind I use both extensively, so I'm just talking a few times over the whole time I used both). I would recommend savings your work frequently though (which you should probably do anyway).

The one nice thing about Blackcat also, is they provide a daily list of 600 premium proxies right in the control panel, so you can just copy and paste it right into your projects, instead of having to scrape proxies via Scrapebox (and we all know what quality proxies you get from that hehe).

Oh and as far as negative SEO, personally I would not waste time on that. I prefer to focus on my own sites, instead of trying to ruin others (I know you meant it as a tongue in cheek comment)

      Was it?

      Okay, yeah...it was.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll need to try out one of these guys (well, except Bhtdownloads) when I have time. I've used both virtual desktops and VPSes in the past, but not in this way.

Yea, another thing I forgot to mention is that BHS has disconnect rules on alot of the plans - you can only disconnect for up to 12 hours. And you do not get admin rights, which is annoying - for example I wanted to download and setup Vagex to earn more Youtube views, but it would not let me.

You get admin rights and there are no disconnect rules on BlackcatVPS, which is nice if you like to setup campaigns that run for awhile.
