Spanked By Google for Blog Network - Question

Like many others, I got nailed by G for contextual blog network links. I submitted a manual request to GWT, but I'm not holding my breath.
Here's my question - I'm still guest posting on other blogs (legit) and for the anchor text in my byline, should I pick a new keyword I never built links for before?
I'm worried that if I build legit links for keywords that I have now been spanked for, if they'll be discounted.
Any thoughts?
I should mention that my site is not a money site, just a personal humor blog, where I sell nothing. Not sure if that factors in.
