This happened to me once and it was caused by a computer virus. I think it was called the Google Hijack Virus. I had to run some malware removal programs to remove it. It was really annoying.

    Try malwarebytes.

Before you run malwarebytes disconnect your modem from the PC.

Once you get the virus removed, get in the habit of running CCleaner at least once a day.

    Both software are free.

Yes it sure does sound like your computer is infected to me.

There are MANY different varients of this type of infection.

If you feel comfortable enough around your computer to try and fix it yourself, more power to you. Otherwise hire a local computer repair service to do the job for you.

Some infections cannot be removed in normal mode and require the computer to be in safe mode with minimal services running to successfully remove the infection.

As others have suggested, Malwarebytes and CCleaner are great tools to use.

However, the first tool i would use for this issue would be Rkill which kills known malware processes.

RKill can be downloaded from www(dot)bleepingcomputer(dot)com it is a free program.

After this i would run Combofix which is another free tool you can download.
The following link will take you to a comprehensive guide to using this very powerful tool.

      www(dot)bleepingcomputer(dot)com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Sorry i don't have sufficient posts yet to be able to post clickable links.

Once you have run Combofix, then run Malwarebytes and see if it picks up any additional infections. Sometimes malware gets exposed in layers. As one is removed, another become visable and can be removed. After running Malwarebytes, run Combofix and then Malwarebytes again. If they both come up clean you should be okay, but even after all this there is no guarantee.

CCleaner is a great tool to use for general housekeeping of your computer.

      Good luck.

PM me if you need any further help.

      Regards,

      Simon.

The ONLY WAY to truly get rid of an infection is to wipe the hard drive and re-install from a known good source. I'm sure many will disagree with me though.

The only way to 100% guarantee removal of an infection is a clean install or re-imaging with a clean image backup.

The method i posted is worth a shot if those choices are not an option.

      Regards,

      Simon.
