If the domain gets 12k direct traffic, why do you care about Google?

You don't need Google to monetize direct traffic.

Now exactly, the main purpose of website is driving traffic and converting them into leads.
Google helps you in pulling organic traffic or, say, your potential clients. If the domain itself is getting 12k direct visitors, you can convert them in leads. Then you don't need Google.

You do need google, because eventually the direct traffic will dry up. You need new visitors to your site, which is where search and marketing come into play.
