Is .US or .EU domain good for SEO?

Basically i know that domain does not effect much on SEO, but i want to know have anyone ever had any kind of problems with these domains?
.US is very cheap domain, only 3.99 USD at GoDaddy, .EU is 14.99 USD, but what is most important they are not overused, so you can still find very nice looking domains for regular price.

    From my quick research on the subject, if you are only worried about USA traffic, then .us is a good choice. However, if you want worldwide traffic, I don't think .us would be a good fit.

    However, I believe there are people that know way more and have first hand experience, so lets see what they have to say.

    If you'd like to rank in the US search engine I'd imagine a .us would work better.

    Why not just go with a .com .net .org or .info though

    If you're going to market/target your website through out the world then those domain extensions are not recommended. Choose non-country TLD's like .com, .org, .net, .info etc

    But, you're going to target united states audience then proceed with .us and if you're going to target European audience then proceed with .eu no matter which domain name you use, for country targeting their local extension are good but for global targeted non-country TLD as i specified above.

      LOL!!!! I chuckle because these threads morph into nonsense.

      Just in case anyone did not know......com, .net, .org, .edu are
      actually considered US TLD domains.... So, calling those
      non-country TLDs is a little off base. That's why other countries
      were given their own country-specific dot coms to differentiate
      them. In fact, I do believe a true .edu still must be a US based
      educational institution.

        First of all, Dario (original poster) never mentioned .edu, rather .eu which stands for European Union.

        Secondly, although .com is favoured by many for the US version of a site, it is a generic TLD and treated as such by SE's. It can be geotargeted in Webmaster Tools for any country or no country, as can .org (organisation), .net (network) and .info (have a guess).

        So if you've found a great domain with any of those gTLD's, snap it up and you can geotarget it to any country (including the US) or no country. If you set it as 'unlisted' in Web Tools Google will NOT consider it to be a US site because of the TLD, but they might if there are other signals pointing towards that.

        NOTE: You rarely see a .us anywhere near the top of any SERPS's (especially for e-commerce sites) so I would go with .com over .us if possible for targeting US.

      FYI: United States default TLD is com, org, net. Other country extensions
      were invented to differentiate US sites from foreign ones. Little
      known fact, I guess.

      Many so-called country specific extensions have been open
      to the public and are no longer country specific.
      .co being the latest and greatest.

      No way would I ever market china, india, brazil, etc. with
      a dot com, org, net,...

      Country extensions exist for a reason.

      But there are really no "world-wide" extensions. Any extension
      can show up anywhere at any time. That's why sites
      like bit.ly, and even youtu.be are out there.
      ly is libya, be is belgium. .me (Montenegro) is growing
      as well. (No, that does not contradict the previous
      paragraph when put in context)

    .Edu are good only if you get the links from hard to get places on .Edu. Where you're the online link.. For example on a yale site. The harder the link is to get the more valuable at least that's how it should be...

    The powerful .Edu come from pages you don't even begin to know how to contact the person to ask for the link.. try seomoz you can link some good info on how to get those kind of links free

    i think these are specific domains for specific countries like .US (united states) .EU (europe)

    i suggest you to go with .com .net .info .org

    Thanks for your reply guys, basically i like .us domain because i found a great domain name which is not used, and mostly, my new web site will be related to USA users, my nich is going to be weight loss, and we all know that Americans are searching for that everyday.
    But i think i will just find some decent .com domain and try make something with it.

    Sometimes Google automatically targets certain cctld domains to the specific search engines, so you might limit yourself from a bunch of international traffic by going with US.

    Ya... unfortunately I tried .us before and didn't have much luck in SEO. It's more for direct traffic... From experience I would rank .com, .org, then .net the best and .info in markets that are not too competitive...

    .com, .net and .org are general top level domains as well as just a few others. These three are recognized internationally. Many prefer to have both these and the country specific domain. I have no idea where the information in this thread comes from. If you want to dismiss the .com as important, be my guest. They are two options and .com is, has and will be continued to be recognized in the future.

    Domain extensions does not matter though using country specific domains make a site to rank well for that specific country, but it restricts global ranking to somehow..

      I've tried them both and to be honest I highly suggest you use .COM it just ranked way better in all my studies.
      Google should work on .us and .eu I almost know for sure that they will improve the rankings of them but for now stick to .com
