What types of links should point to your money site?

I constantly see people writing about how blog comments, forum profiles, and social bookmark spammy links should only point to tier sites, but never to your money site or a client's site. Apparently when dealing with our money sites, we should only use high PR backlinks from "clean" blogs, from which the spammy links are pointed to. Is there any truth to this, or can blog comments and other semi-spammy techniques be pointed to money sites in moderation?

Also, is Scrapebox by far the best way to locate blog commenting opportunities, or can Google blog search be just as valuable?

    A degree of low quality links is ok as natural sites attract this type of link.

    The idea that a site's inbound links should all be high PR is just ridiculous. This is just not natural.

    To pass Google's natural checks you would ideally have a few links from authority domains mixed in and there would be no blasts of low quality links.

    The anchor text would be extremely varied with many generic non ranking anchors like 'click here' or simply the URL of the page.

    Any link can point to your money site so long as it appears natural.

    10 Unnatural Signs:
    1. Profile links
    2. Blasts of any kind
    3. Disproportionately low quality
    4. Disproportionately high quality
    5. Disproportional link source
    6. Disproportional high traffic anchor text links
    7. Overly optimised anchor text
    8. Lack of generic anchor text including image anchors and URL
    9. Steady link building (natural sites attract links in bursts)
    10. Links from repetitive IPs

      This is great intformation and I would like to see you give more detail on the ideal mix of backlinks that a money site should receive. For example: 30% high PR, 30% low PR, 40% blog comments, etc. A percentage of anchor text and deep link distribution would be helpful as well. For example: 30% exact match, 30% almost match, 40% generic, etc.

        I wish I could give exact metrics but as always with SEO a lot of it is trial and error, guesswork and intuition.

        Definitely mix up the sources of backlinks and quality but avoid Private Blog Networks. PBN's are only used to rank paying customers so if the network is busted, which is happening a lot lately, then google assumes without question that you are guilty of gaming their algo.

        If you're new to SEO then try to create every link by hand - you'll learn a lot and should avoid trouble. I know a lot of people swear by using software to create links but in the current climate it's just too dangerous, just look at how many recent threads there are with 'Unnatural Links Detected Penalty' in the title.

        A good practice is to look at natural sites link profiles using something like SEO Majestic. This will give you great insight into how your backlink profile should look.

          I was under the impression that it takes ages to rank a moderately competitive site without access to high PR blog networks. I suppose that I have been misguided.

    Very interesting. Are you saying that you can get the same results with 50 PR3 links than you can get with 10 PR3 links and a bunch of natural, low authority links?

    We post all types of links to sites. However, the number of those links and the speed at which we get them vary based on the quality of the link(s), especially for new sites.

    In a nutshell.. "Good ones" :-)

    A mixture of diverse links on different sites... on relevant pages. Basically, the ideal link is placed on a valuable, informative page that receives traffic. That is a "vote".

    For blog commenting, scrapebox is the choice for locating your blog commenting opportunities. The software can do a lot, but this is it's main function.

    I would say definetly mix up your anchors.

    Build your own private high pr network. Build ten web2.0 with quality information about the niche that you are in and then build backlinks to those web 2.0s.

    Mix up where you get your backlinks. A little from everything.

    Have some sort of social signal in your website.

    This is all that comes to mind. The most important thing is check out your competetion. See what they are doing. Check out their on page seo and what kind of backlinks they are building.

    With all the recent panda updates. Everyone in SEO community is scrambling to find what works.

    One of the main problems that I think happened is all of these popular blog networks got slapped by google and lots of people lost their backlinks and therefore fell in the rankings and someone had to take their place so the people on the 2nd and third pages moved up who didnt use these big blog networks.

    Backlinks still work. As long as you have good content and good on page seo. As long as google has algo to determine serp position it will always be gamed whether it be more high pr backlinks or more into social aspects it can all be gamed.

    Last Point: Seo is NOT passive. It is constantly changing and you need adapt to it.
