Hi all Warriors,

I really don't know where else to turn but you guys are always so helpful so here it goes.

I have a website that my heart and soul is and has been completely in for the past 5 years. It gets minimal traffic, about 150 uniques a day.

Anyways, I really want to turn it into a blog and just "transfer" or "copy" the content from each webpage to new blog post that I will be creating. I know a blog will be better for me in terms of: traffic, my personal motivation of just making new blog posts instead of creating new webpages and working them into the already sloppy sitemap, SEO, and more.

Here's the problem...

Some of my pages are already indexed and have page ranks of 3 or 4. My keywords are crap because It was back before i knew anything about SEO and now I really want to start competeing for better keywords.

My ?...

Should I just throw a wordpress blog in my index folder on my domain and start from scratch?

Should I keep all the webpages in my index folder that are the source for the good content meaning that they would be a duplicate? Or will google not like that?

  • Anyone done this before?
  • What's the right way to do this?
  • Is it more trouble than its worth?
  • Any other advice?

Thanks Warriors!

I'm in desperate need and It's a risk because I still get an OK amount of traffic. Just want to know if its worth losing all that headway and want to make sure that the change over wont piss off google and my site wont be as popular as it's locked into being now.

Cheers,
Justin

Definitely don't just throw everything away, or if you absolutely have to, at the very least 301 your existing pages to their equivalents.

I'd just throw Wordpress in a subfolder, and keep the existing content, maybe revamping the homepage, but leave the rest of it as is

The easiest thing to do would be to keep the pages that you already have, and use a blog for any new content.

If you want to convert the pages you already have into WP pages, use WordPress › .html on PAGES « WordPress Plugins. This will allow you to convert your current pages to Wordpress while maintaining their current structure and format(html). That way you won't lose any of the PR or rankings that your pages currently have. I've used it and it works fine.

@bcred thanks for the input! The only thing with putting Wordpress in a sub folder is that I want to have the new blog posts on my main page so people coming to my site would be able to see the newest content plus better for se's.

@black hat cat. Thank u soo much!! Exactly what I'm looking for! One more ? Tho. If I make the blog the in the index folder so when people go to my stand alone domain url they get my blog, how do.i link the blog to my current pages with the current content? Does it allow me to put a link up on the header bar of the blog? Is think it would.

Thanks again for the info!! Sorry for the spelling mistakes, on a cell phone txt before easter service
