Help Me Decide- Exact Match vs Authority Domain

Hi there,

So that's my dilemma at the moment. Let me explain more by giving an example - unfortunately I do not want to give away the real domain on this thread for obvious reasons.

So I have 2 domains types of considering:
a) one if the exact match domain type but with a small suffix at the end
b) the other is not the exact match domain but only has two of the keywords in it.

Pros for a): exact match domain
Cons for a): domain name quite long (26 characters all up)

Pros for b): shorter domain and flows better off tongue
Cons for b): not the exact match

For this example:
xyz1 = first keyword
xyz2= second keyword
xyz3 = third keyword

1) xyz1xyz2xyz3suffix.com
- So this is the exact match domain and keyword difficulty is 55%
- Looking at the landscape on the first page I know with some work that getting there is definitely achievable

2) xyz1xyz2suffix.com
- So this is the shorter domain with two out of the 3 keywords in it. Keyword difficulty of this keyword is crazy like at 80%

Anyway essentially I'm offering a service but I plan to build this in to an authority domain as well. Like with references and I might do some blogging.

So I guess my overall dilemna is this....do I go for the exact match even though I'm not in love with the domain name but I know it will rank quicker...that is important too as want to make money

Or with the view that google is moving away from exact match domains do I go for the shorter version? I mean I do agree Google is potentially moving away from EMD's however a lot of these guys still rank really well.

Anyway hopefully this is not too confusing!

Let me know you thoughts.

    I wouldn't get hung up on the EMD, as you say yourself, the only real advantage is the slight boost it gives you. It really does seem to just be a case of speed in my experience. I always end up outranking the EMDs within a couple of months purely by weight of authority. Also I would avoid too heavily optimising your site around one keyword phrase, that is going to be, and probably already is a major target for Google going forward.
    If you are in for the long haul, go for the branded, more aesthetically pleasing domain, not the spammy semi-EMD.

    Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

    If you have a small word at the end in my experience that does not count as an EMD. You barely get an EMD bonus if anything. I would go with a normal sounding name to avoid sounding spammy (could be important if google checks you in the future). Either you get the real EMD or you should not bother. (dashes between words also do not make a real EMD)

    I'm starting to think domain name doesn't matter much, compared to actual webpage content. I've seen sites called sweooo or something like that, that are web hosting sites with a PR of 5 or 6.
