BAM! From page 1 on Google search results to God knows where!

During the month of March, my site had made it to the first page in google search results for the term "pringles coupons" and second page for "pringles coupon". This is my first site and I know it's still lean...working on that slowly.

Basically I started the site in Jan this year and mimicked others like it. My thought was if other sites with the same lean info. as mine can make it to #1 for those terms, then I might have a shot. Anyway, it was going good until April 1. Thought maybe it was an april fools joke from google LOL. According to google webmaster tools I was avg. position 4 for the above term for the month of March. I noticed a spike in visitors on Mar. 31 and BAM, gone on Apr. 1. I don't have any rank for those 2 (my main) keyword terms. Is this a normal part of the process or did I get smacked by Panda? Feedback is more than welcome. My website is in my signature. If you search for "pringles coupons" and check the first search result which is the site I mimicked mine from (same site as mine but with dot com) and then look at mine, why would mine disappear and this one stay?

Cheers!

Did you use blog networks for backlinking? Google has brought the hammer down on those links and a lot of people have lost rankings in the past few weeks due to an over reliance on blog networks.

None. In fact the only back links I have are from here and one on squidoo.

Maybe you need to beef up your content and diversify your backlinks a little more? Try that and see how it goes.

    *Edit*

Actually, looking at it, I suppose there's only so much you can write about Pringles coupons. Also, People searching for a pringle coupon will wonder where their coupon actually is after the first paragraph rather than read an essay on the subject. Plus, your domain name contains the word Pringles, which might be trademarked.

Personally I would ditch the site and retry something with a bit more mileage in it.

I definately will, but it's frustrating when my competitors have the same amount of content and keyword stuffing, but my site dissapears?!?

Open Site Explorer doesn't display any links and both the Page and Domain authority are still at 1, the lowest possible score. If I were you, I wouldn't wait. I would get some high PR, high quality backlinks. Not high PR domain links. I'm talking about high PR pages pointing back to your site. With your sites trust level being so low, you won't rank long for any meaningful keyword with that site. Also, probably not this best idea to share your niche and website on a public forum.

This is advice from someone that wants to see you succeed.

Thanks for the advice Pyramid Linkers. Might seem like a dumb question, but how do I go about getting high PR pages pointing back to my site? I'm still learning. Thanks.

No worries. Its not a dumb question. There are a number of ways. You can set up your own blog network, build link pyramids (blast your tier 1 links to increase their authority), find a private blog network to join or quite a few other methods that probably shouldn't be mentioned due to exploitation by the masses. If you are on a budget though, start with link pyramids then move to some of the more advanced linking methods.

I had a site ranking high for the main keyword, I read about keyword density and I noticed that my site had 24% for 1 keyword so I went to the Google forum and asked them, they told me to fix the menu, I believe that was on April 1st, my site tanked in rankings and it keeps coming to page 9 11 and then disappearing.

What were the last changes you made to your website? I will give my site another month and see how it goes. I believe the changes that I have made tanked my rankings as Google might thought that I am trying to play with the keywords to rank, sometimes sites disappear for weeks and come back..

One thing I have learned is never to ask any questions at Google's webmaster forum lol

I didn't make any changes until it got zapped on April 1. I'm going to add more content and build links during april and see how things go. I was wondering if anyone else has also seen any changes on Apr. 1. It's also very weird how I had a jump in page visits on Mar. 31 and then this happened.

I had the same think happen to me on the exact same day. Was ranking 2nd for number1 keyword and 4th for number2 keyword however on April 1st my rank dropped to nowhere. It is an emd and I did buy a fiverr gig for 150 backlinks to try and boost it along a bit. I had just put it down to that to why it has disapeared. The domain is only around 2 months old and had only been ranking for around 1 month but it is now nowhere. I guess I will try adding some more content/decent backlinks to see if anything improves.

Many people, in my opinion, are suffering from sudden link loss. I am not sure if this triggers a penalty in all cases, but having all of the backlinks to your site devalued quickly can create this huge drop. See: Blog networks.

My site also dropped on rankings for two or three days, then it got back on page #1, could have been google dance, I guess.

The spike could have been direct traffic from Google. Check visitors to see if it was direct traffic. Basically, you got manually reviewed.

If it was a manual review, does that mean I'm now up a creek without a paddle, lol?

stebout I have a few sites that are exactly like yours, the newer ones have seen the same fate, I wrote about it here http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ames-dead.html

I think your site will come back in a month or two, but here's some friendly advice. Even if that site ranks #1 it will still make peanuts. Of all my sites the ones in the coupon niche are the least profitable. Unless you plan on building around 500 or so sites just like that I would let that one be and move on to other niches.

Thanks for the feedback goat! When I started this site I figured it wouldn't make much. I was just hoping enough to cover the domain and hosting for the year. It was something basic to start with and learn. However I started seeing any adsense revenue in Feb when I started to see my site on page 2 of google search results. I only made about $5 in Feb. In March I was on page 1 (avg position 4) made just over $12. Would a Fiverr gig help me to get back quickly?

There are a few fiverr gigs that are good, social bookmarking is probably OK. Stick with under 20 or so links promised though, anymore than that will look spammy.

I was going to say that site will probably make around $15 a month, which isn't bad for a first site. But, if you can build that site, you have the skills to do much better than that.

Instead of spending money on backlinks for that site, let it be, it will come back. Spend money on another domain, upgrade to unlimited hosting, buy some content if you don't write yourself and move on to the next. It's all about quantity with adsense, don't focus too long on one site. Build more, build more, build more.

Thanks for the tips. I will wait and see if it bounces back or not. I just wanted to be sure it will before I move on to building more sites and spending money.

      Cheers

    If I may interject:

You used "BAM" in the improper context. If you had gone from nowhere to #1, then you should use "BAM!" ... in your case, you should have used "DOH!".

That is all ... carry on.

Last tip, I would remove that link from your signature, believe me WF links aren't helping your potato chip site and I guarantee there are some snakes in the grass already researching keywords for that niche right now because they can't think of their own ideas.

Has anyone got back the lost positions? Also I havent bought links from any networks, each and every link is manually build only.
