Backlinking for newer sites

Hi all,

I recently created a few new sites that were all registered around the same time. I added content and did moneterize the sites at all. I began with some high PR blog comments on the main home page of the sites using varied anchor text followed by some social bookmark blasts. What I find strange is that some of the sites are still ranking fine around the 2nd page, whereas others have completely left the SERPs. Is there a reason for this? What do others do in this situation, just wait it out?

Thanks!

There's a really good sticky thread that tells you all you want to know. It's called the "Google Dance". Read the thread, you'll find it very illuminating.

Your sites are new, give it some time. Build more links. Get some nice social signals and some nice higher authority links from relevant sites in your niche. Also keep adding content, Google loves it.

Relevance will also play a role. If your page is optimized for a keyword and is clearly relevant, it will naturally rank higher for that keyword than it would for any other. This can often occur with very few links. Google will also move your site around in the search engine results as it calculates what it considers to be the most appropriate placement for your web page.

Beside waiting for something, just keep working on the thing. Build as many dofollow backlinks possible (from the quality relevant websites). This can be helping you to achieve good page rank. Google takes times to reflect the results for your work. The time may be less or more.

Today I would not suggest going for as much as possible dofollow backlinks, as it may seem a bit unnatural.

Though agree that it takes some time to adjust rankings for new websites.

When sites are new they tend to jump around a bit like this. Build varied links slowly with plenty of natural anchors texts and you should see less dancing.

Also be aware that what a lot of people are labeling Google dance is actually the Unnatural Links Penalty which is bad news as rankings drop big time for several months.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about your ranking jumping around until your sites been indexed at least 2 months. Just keep building quality consistant links.

SEO is all about being patient, so tighten ur belts and keep working (building backlinks) for sometime and you will see rankings improve. While I was learning and studying about seo I learned that the rankings of our site drop because of 2 reasons 1 - Bounce rate so if google is ranking you for a keyword but people are bouncing back, without spending much time, its an indication that may be ur site is not relevant to the keyword its ranking for. 2- reason could be competitors in the same niche tweaking their site. I would suggest check the bounce rate and avg time spend on site by the keywords u were ranking for earlier and now u don't rank.

    Hope this helps!!
    cheers
