SEO for book review site?

I'm working on a niche book review site that lists to 10-15 books in several subcategories of the niche, but I'm wondering how I should go about SEO and backlinks.
It seems amazon listmania! lists are eating up all of the google search results for "best books for ___" type searches. Would creating my own listmania list be helpful if I link it to my site?
I'm planning on doing all the typical SEO stuff, having a biweekly blog entry, and putting my book lists on places like squidoo, ehow, and those types of things.
Anyone else have ideas for this type of venture?
