The competition level you target depends on either of these:
      • How good you think your writing is
      • How much time you want to spend writing about your keyword's subject

Most people will aim for keywords with 2000+ exact searches per month, but that means there's a sea of < 2000 a month keywords nobody else cares about. Higher CPC (see that columns dropdown on the keyword tool?) is better even if you aren't running AdSense since it's a decent indicator of the potential for monetization.

The better you know your target audience, the less trouble you'll have thinking of keywords to plug into the keyword tool to check. I don't know what an "amazon wp plugin" is.

I generally just stick with the adwords keyword tool. I've written a free guide that explains how I use it on my site. The most important bit if you're looking for easy rankings is my competition chapter!

I just use the Adwords Keyword Tool, and for CPC always remember to divide it by three, because that's about how much Google will give you!

I've fallen for $1 CPCs to only get $0.20~

I use a combination of the Adwords tool and the free version of Traffic Travis. This has worked well for me. Good luck.
