I was wondering if leaving your google analytics on your niche sites are a good idea? I heard that Google will be able to gather information against you via Google webmaster tools and google analytics and use them against you in SEO.

Should I still use GA or am I better off using an alternative analytics tools?

I think its safe and many websites ( most of them ) have added Google Analytics to their website but if you want to be sure, i suggest to use another system. There are many free such tools that help you to track your website's status in details.

Wow I would NEVER use google analytics on my niche sites...their terms and conditions allow them to use your analytic info like bounce rates etc on other Google properties, such as search.

My niche sites ALL have HUGE bounce rates. Why? Because I build them to! I WANT people to bounce off my site by immediately clicking an adsense ad or amazon affiliate link. That's how I get paid!

Google analytics sees that information (high bounce rate) as a negative, and your sites will drop in the Search Results because that info will get transferred to search. Of course, that's just conspiracy theory...I'm not sure it's been verified by Google except through innuendo..

Why take the chance tho? Use one of the thousands of other analytic programs that treat you like a human and don't spread your proprietary info around...

Google still know your site's bounce rate whether you use Analytics or not.

Besides, do you really think that bounce rate is an important ranking factor? If it was than people could just put their competitors site through a traffic exchange so they have a high bounce rate because each site is only shown for a few seconds.

No they won't. If someone comes to my site from Google, then clicks on an amazon affiliate link or any other affiliate link not connected to Google, then Google has no way of knowing my bounce rate.

They would only be able to back it out if someone came to my site, then hit the back button and went back to Google...and even then it's not perfect.

Yes it's a ranking factor...frankly not a big one as you suggest...but every little bit counts. Even if it's only 1/1000th that's enough for me. Besides...google just pisses me off these days...I'll use any excuse I can not to use them. And yes, I understand the irony of that last statement given the fact that I make a lot of money with Adsense...

Especially since I'm quite confident that Google gets almost as much info from the Adsense script as the Analytics one. They get impressions and time on page at least, as well as pages per visit. In combination with the info they get from their own search data I'm sure they can formulate an effective estimate of just about any metric you can think of.

Sorry, I don't mean to play devil's advocate because I'm certainly not pro-Google. Just thought I'd point that out. Caring about anonymity with Google is pointless if you're using Adsense - You're giving them your SSN for pete's sake!

In response to the OP: I think that if Google wanted information about your website, they would be able to find it with or without Google analytics installed. So, that being said, it's a matter of personal preference...

If you like Google analytics, use it.

If you plan to do anything blackhat or prefer StatCounter/GetClicky, don't use it.

          Pretty simple.

Yes but Adsense isn't allowed to pass that information to other units of google such as search...it's in their terms...analytics CAN pass info. There's a firewall around the adsense division...at least, that's what they say...

It doesn't have anything to do with blackhat vs whitehat... ANY site can and will be effected by the data google analytics collects...

I use GA and WMT. As said there might be a concern if you don't want them knowing your bounce rate for your money site.

The only valid reason to not use Analytics to hide your site from competitors and nosy people. There's tools that can find all sites linked to the same UA.

Other than that, GA & WMT are safe to use. Google will not use any data against you (or reward you). That would be unfair to you and the 75% of the webmasters who don't use GA or WMT.

If you dont want to you data shared anonymously in GA, then there's a page in your account where you can disable data sharing.

Yeah but I'm not sure their new privacy policy doesn't trump that...

I don't use google analytics. If you want to keep your information private from google than don't use GA. If you aren't concerned about Google knowing than don't worry about it.

GetClick is real time, has better info, and doesn't use the info against you.

    1. Google Analytics - I'm pretty sure, they use data from this service for SERP ranking, because... because they can.

    2. Google Adsense - This is good loophole where Google can (and have to) get visitors data. And they collect it. That's why we have Privacy Policy on our web sites. Sure, they can use it for their own purposes, including SERP ranking.

    3. Google Webmaster Tools - Perfect tool to see sites affiliation. If your sites are heavily interlinked - you may have problems. Otherwise - who cares. The rest of information here is for you, not for Google. Google knows more about data shown in WMT than you

Don't use analytics on your niche websites, use another service. They can use the data to alter your ranking in the long run. So as stated before, go with different tools such as Piwik, Awstats or statscounter.

If you don't use Analytics, how do you then track the performance of your Adsense sites? Do other packages like Awstats integrate with GA? I'm just thinking of things like, for example, flipping your site... you need to be able to give solid earnings breakdowns.

Adsense itself has it's own reports that you can use for that...I mean, they show the amount of impressions and the earnings...which is the main thing a buyer is going to want to see...

I am not sure how true all of this speculation is but I would honestly like to give them as little information on my site as possible.

I would try to use Statcounter it is simple and they have a free option.

I've been running Google Analytics on my Adsense sites for 5+ years with zero problems.

If you have Adsense on the site Google knows more about your stats. than you do, including bounce rates.

Google didn't become a billion dollar business by not tracking data on Adsense sites.
