How to check local rankings in another city?

Is there a free or inexpensive tool for checking Local rankings? Since location has a lot to do with results especially with google places, I'd like to find a software that I can use for this purpose. The problem is that if my IP shows I'm in Denver, and I'm trying to rank someone who lives in Las Vegas then I can't really track their rankings properly...

    You can install VPN (virtual private network) in your system. By logging into it, will enable you to check ranks in locations like Los Angles, Washington etc.

      I do have a VPN but the choices are limited as far as locations go. Doesn't google return local results differently depending on the location of the IP address?

        You can use a proxy to stop caching on your computer affecting results. You are limited on free ones to where it randomly jumps but you can use 'in/near location. Setting location in the browser defaults to the 'near' option.
