Google Indexing Issues

I have a potential client that has an ecommerce website. They are baffled as to why some of the unfriendly URL pages show up in the serps and why some friendly URLs show up as well.

If there is a page that is URL friendly and the same page that is also not URL friendly, why does Google index the unfriendly URL.

I hope someone can clarify this for me.

Thanks!

Google will try to index everything. The friendly URLs have a better shot at better SERPs -- all else being equal.

If the same page is available on two URLs, it is a big issue. One page should be accessible through one URL only.

You can block these non-friendly websites from showing up adding them to a htacces.dat file.

Do you mean that I can block non-friendly pages from showing up?

      Just wanted to clarify.

      Thanks!
