Keywords in the last Paragraph/Sentence?

There is a widely held belief, both here and on SEO blogs & forums all over the place, that in addition to having your targeted keywords in the Title, URL, and opening paragraph - that your SERPs are improved by also having your keywords in the last paragraph or sentence of an article/post.

After much searching of the interwebs, I've been completely unable to find any evidence to support this hypothesis.

Does anyone have any evidence, other than social proof, that including targeted keywords in the last paragraph improves SERPs?
#keywords #paragraph or sentence

I think your splitting hairs here.

I mean picking the tiny battles when you might wanna win the big ones.
There are many many more on page strategies that you could invest more time studying (such as Latent Symantec Indexing, Silo SEO, content themeing) that would benefit you more greatly, even if this does have any impact - the impact it will have will be less than 1% of the overall algorithm in a competitive market and gain you less than a 5% return in a very low competition market...

I appreciate what you're saying, and I apologize for not making myself clear - I don't believe I'm splitting hairs - I think many other people are.

I don't subscribe to the "last paragraph" theory - I've never applied this strategy, and as I said, I've been looking into it and can't find any reasonable evidence to support it.

I'll take your response as being in the "don't have reason support the theory either" camp.

It's just quite puzzling to me that so many people are adamant about its importance, when I can't find any empirical evidence to back it up.
