This is a pretty basic question but how do you find blogs to comment on? Is there a list og blogs some where? Can you type a query in some format into Google that will take you to blogs about a given subject?
Thanks for any answers.

Your can purchase lists, use a tool like Scrapebox, or do it the old-fashioned (but time-consuming) way via Google or another search engine.

    "powered by wordpress" + "keywords"

There are plenty of other footprints if you dig around.

Put this in google search box:

"KEYWORD HERE" "powered by wordpress" "leave a comment" -"no comments"

    OR

“KEYWORD HERE” "Remember my personal information" "Notify me of follow-up comments"

      Additionally:

"powered by wordpress" + "Mail (will not be published) (required)" + "keywords"

This should find posts that are currently open for comments. But Scrapebox is still going to be MUCH more effective.

An alternative way to search for blogs to comment on is to use Google to find plugins that manage comments using the query

          intitle:keyword phrase "commentluv"

Other plugins to try in the quotes include keywordluv and Nofollow Free

I use Scrapebox for research and all of its other functions. It's much more than a blog commenter. I rarely, if ever, use the fast poster.

Yeah. With SB you can literally do thousands of searches at once - with the press of a button. Instead of doing each search one by one. Plus you can run the list of results through a PR check, dofollow check, etc.

So do I want to put the + sign in there too? I've always done it like..

Just how I've always done it. The "+" ensures that you incorporate all of the phrases in the search.

A lot of people use Scrapebox to find blogs to comment on. I do not recommend it for posting comments, but it is an incredibly powerful tool to find good quality blogs where you can leave do-follow links on.

Besides that, you can search what Akmal recommended. It is another good way to find blogs where you can leave comments.

I used to do it manually and it was a disaster. Picked up Scrapebox and was mad at myself for not doing so sooner. It still takes plenty of time to build a decent list (of quality blogs, not AA blogs), but MUCH less time than doing it manually.

I have used Scrapebox to locate blogs (and for nothing else), but I found that I get a TON of junk that is not relevant, regardless of the keywords.

I find that manual methods are more effective, even though they're a bit more time consuming.

You could also join a website like Linkedin. There are lots of bloggers there, and blogging communities which are free to join - most of the time, they list their blogs and one can usually comment

Are you using the "intext" footprint for Google, or "inbody" footprint for bing?

        Example: intext:"dog training tips"

    Thanks for any answers.
    That's easy.

What blogs do you READ in your niche?

If you're not reading blogs in your niche, you shouldn't be thinking that there's some magical "list" of blogs on which to comment. Do that, and you'll not only contribute to Web spam, you'll also annoy the heck out of blog owners.

I own many blogs. I approve comments which are useful and add to the conversation. For everything else, I hit the Delete button.

    Consider this.

Blog owners spend time, money and energy developing their blogs. They write for their READERS.

The likelihood that they'll allow junk comments just to increase their comment count is zero.

I hate to be negative, but please rethink your approach to blog commenting. It's not just a way to get free links. You can build wonderful relationships if you make thoughtful comments.

Making those thoughtful comments, and getting your free links, starts when you READ a blog.

Commenting is a quid pro quo. You provide interesting content; you get a link.

    It's as simple as that.

    Cheers

All I have ever used is a simple Google search.

Input your keyword followed by 'blog' and you'll get tons of search results come back and a big list of blogs in your niche.

So if you wanted to find blogs on the car niche... Input 'car blog' into Google.

Then take down all of the blogs you find onto notepad or in a document on Google Docs.

Don't make it harder than it needs to be.

go google ex. "your keyword"+ do follow comment blog. don't spam because the owner will remove. Write your site url this way ( http:// www.your site.com )check the stats to see if the backlink are there after a while .A few blog better then many ,search for PR the higher the better ,return often to leave comment.

I tend to use quality blog directories- such as Technorati and BlogCatalog, to find the best blogs in a given niche. I'll also make sure that the blog is reguarly updated, to ensure that my links are going to get clicks from actual people. I rarely blog comment for SEO purposes, it's usually to build inter-blog relationships and increase my audience.

    i use the standard search

    "keyword here" "leave a comment"

also you can outsource this at fiverr and there a few special gigs where they will actually post comments on relevant blogs in the same blogs as your site which is a lot more powerful

also if you do happen to outsource it at fiverr try to only use the gigs where they guarantee that the blogs used have low OBL, otherwise the PR will get diluted too much

Fiverr can be dangerous because you never really know where your links will end up. There's a few good gigs. But unfortunately most tend to get lost in the noise and "100,000 backlinks!!!!!!!" gigs.

Beside typing "powered by wordpress" in Google, you can try:
    1) create a Google Alert for "Blogs", for the keyword that you're interested in.

    2) if your keyword is "dogs", type in Google:
    dogs site:blogspot.com OR site:wordpress.com

    3) expand the view to 100 results per page, or if you're using Firefox, install Autopager (plugin), which automatically expands the SERP and shows all the available results for your Google query.

I would just manually search them on Google. Simple, but is effective in finding exactly what you want (with the right keywords too). Like others said, include the word wordpress, blog, etc. I also saw that Google has a 'Google Blog Search" but I'm guessing this could help decrease the numbers of search results vs. using the entire search engine..

Scrapebox, a great tool to research for your all needs of blogs & even found in your own niche.

These will be in do follow mode & will help you get streamlined comments on them when you choose to do so. But the present rule is to do manual way only else there are dangers of penalizing from Google.

I see the followed links nightmare has been mentioned.

Google is slapping down sites that have un-natural link profiles. So please safeguard yourself by building both followed an nofollowed links. Part of the problem with people who's sites dropped like a stone during Panda/Penguin is that their link profile is stuffed full of followd links. Cover yourself.

There are others, myself included, who do blog commenting differently. There are MUCH better ways to comment than mindlessly spamming posts.

I tend to only comment on blogs that are moderated. And I make sure I actually skim the post and leave a legitimate reply.

Newbie here...can you explain jazbo? So, for my profile I would only want one follow link (I am assuming a "follow" link is a clickable link)?

What do you mean by building followed and nofollow links? I also need to find some blogs and start commenting on them...love all the ideas here. Wondering how to safeguard myself? Or is this something I should start a new post on?

I wouldn't get to worked up about being "penalized" for too many DoFollow links. It's going to take a LOT of links to even get noticed.

And it's assumed that nofollow links are ignored by the search engines. (I say assumed because it's highly debated.) While dofollow links are counted and help with rankings.

I believe the easiest way to find keyword related blog is typing in Google.
    To find blogs that allows comment you can type in these;
    Keywords+reply to post
    Keywords + powered by wordpress
    Keywords+leave comment
    Keywords+leave a comment

    To find blogs that allows comments that would include an anchor text to your keyword, you can type this in to Google;
    Keywords+this site uses commentluv
    Keywords+this site uses keywordluv.

Yes this tactic would be a bit time and effort consuming, well if you don't want to do this you can easily buy softwares which can give you automated results, though I hope you don't use this to automate your comments.

I've been wondering the same thing. Is there anyway to get targeted visitors to your comments? Checked for forums on health, weightloss, business, etc. but didn't seem anyway near as good as this one. Guess it's a lot of hit or miss but you build backlinks when you leave comments right? Still trying to learn how to get on page 1 of google though. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

It definitely is. Just don't make the mistake of using it to mindlessly blast comments to thousands of blogs. You're not going to get very far that way.

Instead, use it as a tool to help find higher quality blogs that you can manually comment on. It's also got about a million other features aside from commenting / harvesting. So it's worth the $57.

Spy on your competition: type in the URL of your top 5 competitors in backlinkwatch.com and see which blogs they are getting backlinks from. Then subscribe to the RSS feeds from these sites and then comment on them once or twice a week.

Don't spam, don't sell and always add quality content and insight to the conversation.

This is something that a lot of people tend to overlook. Doing some research on the top 10 results for your keywords can give you a ton of quality backlink sources.

Another great tip for finding sites to comment on has been mentioned here by some. That is to reverse engineer other commenter's links back to their sites, as they will in a lot of cases also be accepting comments on their blogs.

Using this method will greatly help you to find more sites to comment upon

Alternatively, you can enter their anchor text and see where else they've commented. This works well on KeywordLuv enabled blogs, since they encourage anchor text. If "John From Best Gardening Supplies" has commented on one blog, chances are he has commented on plenty of others. I've found a lot of PR1+ & DoFollow posts to comment on by doing this.

One of the easiest way to build links is to comment on forums and sites whenever you land on one. We need to Google search for information all the time. At that point in time, when you are seeking information that is relevant to that subject, the comments you are able to post will look informative and less likely to be removed.

Scrapebox for finding but not advisable on commenting. Do it manually whenever you comment on blogs so that you would really target and might as well share your thoughts about their topic. You might help their readers as well and could make your comment successfully be approved by its admins flawlessly.
