If you don't change direction, you'll end up where you're going.

If its duplicated content, it is possible but not likely that it harms you.
If the ''thief'' curated it, its no big deal. (dis means, did the ''thief'' give a referall or link to your site, did he copied the whole thing or did he put some extra words in it?

If the copied text have source link to your website, it can help your ranking too but if only text has been copied without link to your site, it can hurt your ranking but if your website is qualified enough, the website that copied your content, will be known as duplicate version by Google and your ranking will not hurt.

dear i am also very much worried about it, here is my own site ilmkidunya which is pakistan's biggest and most visited educational site. and we have reporters who visit colleges and universities to collect news but lots of bloggers just copy paste that news from us and that blogs also comming in google search mostly after our site..
this really hurt me that we do a lot of work but other people just copy us and get same benefit..

But for google it is a sign of authority, your site is good therefore he is copied.

      ^^This.

Don't worry, it happens to me all the time. I just ask if they would like to add my URL as the source when I notice it, other people just get penalized in the long run. People copying and pasting directly don't know what they are doing, and it will eventually help you as they are destroying their own rankings.

        That's not necessarily true.

Another site can easily copy & paste content from another site & then turn around & rank the copied content.

It just depends on who wants to do the work to rank the content/page, the original source or the copied page.

Google doesn't care who created the content first.

laid back approaches like this has hurt many great sites in the long run. The copying of content gets so out of hand that Google can no longer tell who is the originator.

The first post in this thread mentioned dmca.com. I use them in conjunction with tynt.com. DMCA.com gives you a badge which acts like a deterrent more than anything. Once people see you are serious about protecting your property they think twice about copying.

Tynt.com is a free service that lets you load a small piece of script that adds the source url & custom text to any content 'copy and pasted' from your site. This produces alot of backlinks. Most times I just allow people to copy a paragraph or two if it's part of bigger commentary on the topic.

So by using these two services you can encourage your content to be linked to without all the negative effects of having published in full all over the web.

You can also send DMCA notices via Google and via Google Adsense:
        https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...ce?pli=1&hl=en
        https://support.google.com/adsense/b...olation_report
