SEO - Ranking A Website In Different Countries

Hi, I have a website making me money from SEO rankings in the US only.
I'd like to now get it to rank in countries like Canada, Australia and the UK. I understand that host server location plays a big role, so I'll be looking into getting hosting in these three countries.
I'd like to know if you have personally tried to do this and how you fared, or any tips on global SEO rankings would be appreciated.
