getting slapped around by google

I now have 2 sites which have been google slapped. or so I think...What the heck could I be doing wrong?

They're not de-indexed because when I type the domain into google it's still in google index.

It has to be something on-page that I've done with both sites right?

could it be that Im using 301 redirects to cloak affiliate links?

im totally lost here

How do you know if you've been google slapped already? How old is your domain names and how long have you been trying to rank for them?

I was actually in the top 3 for 2 search terms on one of the websites and now its nowhere to be found in the first 20 pages for either of the search terms.

The second site is about 5 months old and was at the top of page 2 for the search term I was trying to rank for and now it is nowhere to be found. The weird thing is other pages for that site are still in the index but the page i was trying to rank is MIA.

Have you taken a look at google webmaster tools to see if they have said anything in your control panel

Dang it you're right..i got a message stating unnatural links detected..It says I'm buying links to pass pagerank and/or participating in link schemes. I did have somewhat excessive reciprocal links so I'm guessing that was the problem...Any tips for submitting my site for re-condsideration? Has this ever happened to any of you?

Get rid of the dodgy links and start creating more good quality unique content and pray that it comes back....

I submitted one of mine for a re inclusion request once I dealt with my issue (which was not the same as you)

Yeah we need more info from you to help you out...

Another question, were you ranking for certain keywords and now you're not?

3 of my sites got a nice slap from google however I think I have worked out the reason why and have made the changes so I am expecting my sites to jump back to the top of the SERPS again....

You need to make sure your site has definitely been slapped and de indexed....

    Ouch, sorry to hear that.

Here's a really good thread that should help you:

FAQ - Google Masterclass - don't even think about starting a Google thread until you have read this

Many different factors that may have affected your rankings, so check out that thread (especially the 'How to Tell if You Were Sunk' section) and find what applies to you.

The thread that Dan above refers to, has great information. There's a few ways mentioned to check and see what's happened.

I've had a similar thing happen recently. Site just plummeted, not deindexed, just dropped really low after ranking well. No messages in webmaster tools either. Puts a real downer on things.

Happened to my three week old site. I wonder if you and I were affected by the "Google honeymoon" where a site shows up well for the first few weeks and then drops out of site. That happened to me over the weekend.

I think my site is about 6 months old, I'd been really careful with my backlinking - taking it slow.
