My serp rankings dropped tremendously after recieving an unnatural links message from google. Would deleting webmaster tools be the best first step to getting my serp back up? Is webmaster tools the reason they even know this?

Anybody get hit that doesn't have webmaster tools?

Blaming Webmasters Tools is sorta like blaming the doctor for diagnosing you with Cancer. Don't blame the messenger!

Actually, the guy pretty much answered all your questions. And anyone who reads it will agree he wasn't trying to be wise at all. You are obviously really sensitive right now after receiving that message from Google.
And your response makes you look pretty foolish.

Webmaster Tools has nothing to do with your serp's or the reason that you got caught doing whatever you were doing. If you didn't have webmaster tools, you would simply be in here with a "What happened to my rankings??" thread instead of this one.

Agreed with this one. Maybe he just don't what Rich means in his reply.

Google analyze a website just like a doctor analyzes a patient. Anyway, even if you don't GWT, you can still be hitted by Google. No one is exempted I think.

Removing Webmaster Tools will not help whatsoever. I had a site that was penalized but was not in Webmaster Tools. The moment I placed that site in Webmaster Tools, the message appears....its automatic. Googles algorithms are very sophisticated now, they know what's going on with your site, they have the most powerful backlink checkers on the internet, why would you think removing Webmaster Tools is going to make any difference.
