How to get a spammy website de-indexed?

Unfortunately we lost our 5 year old domain name by not paying attention to its renewal date. It was bought by someone who is now running a totally unrelated blog which is obviously trying to take advantage of the high page rank (pr4).

We had to register a new domain to run our campaign on but the problem is our old (lost) domain is ranking higher than the new one, which was expected since it's got so many quality links pointing to it.

What do you guys suggest we do? I have already filled out Google's webspam form but don't really know what else I can do.

Give yourself a slap for not renewing it rather than trying to get someone else's site de-indexed.

May sound obvious and way out there but have you tried contacting them? I have heard of people before cutting a deal and getting their sites back in similar cases, just depends on who your dealing with.

Sorry for not mentioning that I have contacted the domain owner and purposed to buy the domain back for a good amount cash, but didn't get a response back.

I'm not trying to penalize them for being smart and registering an authority domain, but for ranking for a totally unrelated keyword.

Sorry to say this but it's your own fault that you forgot to renew your domain. You probably cannot do a thing. If there were many backlinks to the website for the keyword you are saying and they seem natural to Google none of your actions will deindex the site for that keyword.

Well, if you have old report of your links, go there and change the URL and index those links again (However, it is not possible with blog comments).

    OR

Apply black-hat SEO to your old site to get it de-indexed,

    OR
Build more and more quality links to your new site
