How social likes and shares show impact on SEO?

I think these social shares and likes will not increase my keyword ranking but gets good traffic from those sources. Would like to know how it is helpful in increasing ranking?

    Like and share does not directly improve keywords ranking, because it does not target specif anchor text.

    But great social signal and high referral traffic will tell search engine that is a hot site. So search engine will crawl the site more often and increase overall keywords ranking.

    Other than getting a great amount of referral traffic it wont increase your rankings,
    google + can have an impact though more so if you +s come from people who are searching for you and have friends in circles searching for you - then its like a recommendation.
