Hello Warriors,

I am new to SEO and even though I am trying to read as much as I can to get myself acquainted, I find it difficult to work out a number of things.

One of them is how I shall optimize for a particular keyword. The only thing that I know is this keyword should appear 1-2% within the content of the web page. However, what else shall I do with this keyword so that my website ranks well for it?

I would appreciate your telling me the best things that I can do in order to optimize my website for a particular keyword. Also, could you please let me know how I can check the position of my website on Google and Yahoo for a particular keyword.

Thank you for your help in advance!

I use and recommend this plugin:

    WordPress SEO Plugin

It will add a neat little checklist to each of your wordpress posts that will help you optimize for the search engines.

    I recommend these ingredients:

    1k words or more
    1 percent keyword density
Keyword in title and h1 tag
Image matching keyword with alt text

    The rest is just backlinks.

      Yes, this.

It should be in the URL as well, but if it's the title that should be taken care of already. In addition I would also try to get a variation of the keyword in the H2 tag. Also do not forget to interlink within your site, and link OUT as well.

As far as checking your keyword, check out the Firefox addon called Google Global.

And don't write for the search engines. Write for the reader.
