Hey there fellow warriors

I think this may be the first time I've asked for advice?

I have a site that is over 5 years old. It is an EMD. The keyword is rated 'low' competition on google keyword tool. The kw has 90500 searches global and local. I have reasonable content on there (29 pages) including embedding some related youtube vids. It's purely an info site until I get some traction so there's no adsense or aff links or over-optimisation. It is a .info

For some reason it wasn't even in the waybackmachine even though it used to be?!?

In terms of links I have 25 backlinks and about 50 internal links. The backlinks are random so I could no doubt spend time getting more relevant ones.

I've done nothing with it other than add content and smarten up the appearance for years but want to now get it moving.

Average position in google webmaster is 700 for the main keyword 700!!

I'd really appreciate some suggestions on what I can do to improve it.

start adding more content while at the same time adding more links

the more quality and higher the better and also relevancy

give it a few weeks of adding content every day you will start to see a spike in traffic

    Thanks for the feedback, guys.
Funnily enough GWebmaster tells me I have 25 back links which threw me cos I got a back link package a while back. A check on another site shows I have 107 back links from 16 referring domains.
How many back links should I be building?
    Thanks again folks

Make it look natural, add content daily. Meaning every 2 - 3 days. Then build links each day to your website. 20 - 30 a day are a good start. Don't over do your SEO. Also use various anchor text and link back to every url (http://www.yourdomainsite.com, www.yourdomainsite.com, http://yourdomain.com) don't forget to add links to inner pages as well.

Would be best to read some more on SEO in the stickies section of this section.

Some people say content ranks out its own, especially after the latest Panda updates but I strongly disagree with that, you will always need solid backlinks.

What does the top ten competition in google look like? Did you use proper meta tags, description, titles? What kind of content are you putting up? And what kind of backlinks have you been building? Those are the first things i'm wondering.

If your top competition is too steep you may never see much organic traffic from the search engines. Also your content should be related and unique to a point. You'll also want backlinks from quality sites/posts.

25 backlinks doesn't mean all that much- a 5 year old domain but it only has 25 backlinks? Google doesn't see it as being too popular.

I'm not saying to spam it with crappy links, but start a slow and steady link campaign.

    Appreciate the input, people.
I've now got a plan. Rechecking the meta etc then checking I'm using kw in my articles and tags. Then will continue to add decent content - and longer articles - which are kw rich while blog commenting and forum posting on relevant quality sites.
I love this forum - thanks again!
