Expired Domain or New Website?

Hi Guys-

I'm new to posting on here, however I frequent the site. My question is: I want to either buy an expired domain (with authority) or build a new website for the sole purpose of linking long-tail keywords on my website, which multiple competitors are currently doing. So my question is, which is better:

1. To build an expired web domain ( with rank and authority) from godaddy auctions and rebuild a new site?
2. Simply, buy a new name, build a new site, and put very unique content up with a links between pages? ( With this method, I'll be require to build links back to the new site for PR and authority, which I'm willing to do).

Since I've invested a ton into my current site, I'm not wanting to cut corners, so I'm looking for the BEST approach.

Thanks in advance!

It would be good if you are taking expired one because it can get visibility on search engine very easily and quickly as compared to new domain.

    Buy the authority

    Buy a new website

Redirect the authority to the new site with a 301 redirect

Hammer the authority with high quality links

Watch the new website rank with ease

    Win.Win.Win

Verrry interesting concept ( I LIKEY). Will the authority (i.e PA/DA/PR) transfer to the new domain?

Word-for-word what I was going to suggest.

So I thought I'd just quote it instead.

I'm going to try this approach. I'm on godaddy auctions now looking for some good domains. Any other recommendations for purchasing? Ideally, I would love to find at solid authority site ( more concerned about the domain authority vs PR).

How long after purchasing/rebuilding solid new website with fresh content/and 301 redirecting could I start adding my links?

Make sure the PR is real.

There's a ton of domains floating around with fake PR.

Fake PR will not make it pass me. I check the backlinks ( along with the backlink's PR and DA/PA).

Here's my concern: How long should I build fresh content before the links can be added? How much content? Wordpress blog or full site?

Here's an idea, buy a few high PR domains, like you originally plan, throw some content (i.e. 5 or so posts), build backlinks to them (for the keyword that you're targeting for), wait until they are ranked on top 100 (or top 50, which I prefer), then you can either 301-redirect them OR throw some links pointing to your money site.

Btw, I suggest mix the CMS a bit. Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc.

New domain is good if you analyze the keyword for your domain first. But totally depends on you. If anyone had high PR website they why they didn't renew it?

buying an expired domain will cost you much and also all the negative issues connected to it will be connected to you also even though you're a different entity that uses that domain.. while having a new name will give you a fresh start, lower costs in domain price, and the only con in it is that you will build the reputation of your domain that will cost you some time to do

If you buy expired domain it can easily rank. It require less efforts as compared to new domain.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna start tailoring my website building efforts around aged domains instead of rankings a fresh website. Just seems far easier and in my first niche the website that has #1 on google for the keyword I'm targeting seems to be doing just that, they only have 1 of the 3 words for the keyword in there domain and there beating out tons of competition targeting the keyword in the domain. The site's only a pr1 too, it got me intrigued with the idea.

This isn't so clear cut. I bought a handful of expired domains over the past few months and they have all lost their initial great rankings. I tested new content on some and on others I lifted the original content from the wayback machine. All have gone under now!

However, we have been building new sites and they are all ranking really easily straight out of the box.

The benefits of aged domains aren't what they used to be.

If you can afford to buy both - then thats the best bet.

Because you can direct one to another and have some extra traffic from search engines.

Bottom line is to keep putting quality content to your sites. Soon or later - traffic arrives.

    Agree with Kursat.
If you think both are good and can afford, buy them.
