Question about Domains.

So I was goofing around with some free site that tells you what your domain was worth. I don't really buy what they said, but it got me to thinking.

I own one domain that is almost 11 years old. I have owned it the entire time, and has been used for my various business ventures, but all catered to the same general niche. The site is still live, it just auto directs to another domain for a local business I own.

The second is one I have owned for almost 7 years and actually forgot about it until it auto renewed the other day. It is going nowhere right now. Isn't even listed in DNS servers. if you try to go to it Google can't find it. Which is why I think the "website site appraisal" of 13,000 for this site was pretty bogus.

Anyway, my question. Do either of these sites hold any more value than buying a new domain? That may sound like a dumb question because I assume they do, but I'm just not sure why they would.

I can give out the domains if that's a good idea and helpful.

Thanks

Of the many factors in the Google Algorithm, domain age is a definite factor in determining your rank. 11 and 7 years are excellent in terms of age and in my opinion does make the domains more valuable.

Of course how much more valuable depends on the actual domain name.

Thank you Kevin. I was going to just let one go and I was like, nah I might as well try my hands at making an SEO website with an aged domain and see how it goes.

Google does not care one iota about how old a domain or
site is. As far as it being more "valuable" to a buyer of
the domain or site, that's debatable. The only value
would be indexing, backlinks, authority, content, PR,
etc., which have nothing to do with age either.

But, the age myth makes domain resellers rich, duping
an unsuspecting sap who thinks hard work is a non-issue.

Paul, I should have quantified my statement a bit more. I still do believe that domain age is a factor, but what usually encompasses a lengthy domain age will probably have more of a factor.

Was the site live for 11 years? In 11 years, the domain is bound to have some backlinks attached to it. A definite advantage over a new domain.

Yes, one of the sites has been active since it was created. The other has been dormant for about 6-7 years and wasn't even used much when it was active.

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.
