I have three main sites....
1) 18 months old. Haven't done too much off page SEO with it. Great stats on time on site, bounce rate, etc. Optimized for on-site SEO. That site ranks in the top 10 for more than a dozen decent terms, and #1 for 2-3. No real change in this site.
2) 2 month old site. I've done some off-page fiverr gigs for it, but not much. On page is optimized, but because it is so new, I've been tweaking it every week or two. No great SERP results for it yet. No change in this site
3) The last is my baby. 7 month old site, getting 200,000 impressions per day, but very low CTR because I am only #1 for one term, the rest were mostly in the 2-10 range. I've been paying about $800/month for adwords traffic, and was going to finally turn a profit on that this month. Did over 3000 quality backlinks of my own. I also did a lot of article and some pyramid fiverr gigs. Used linklicious.me to index the links at a slow drop, but also used pingfarm.com on them also. On-page seo is optimized, but I don't think anyone would consider it keyword stuffing. There are a lot of keywords for this and I am competing against 10+ year old sites with some with 1 million+ backlinks. This one got hit hard but I still have the keyword I was ranked #1 for at #1. I also have a few still in the top 10, but many dropped off the radar completely.
I believe the third one was effected because of the backlinks created with the fiverr gigs. But in a tough niche, how do you expect to get any traction unless you promote yourself? My sites are quality sites. They are web 2.0. Not blogs, review, or affiliate sites or something created to target long tail keywords. These are utility sites with heavy php, jquery, and mysql. My goal is a great user experience, even if it means making less money through intrusive ad placement or full page refreshes when I could do partial.
I have no idea why my #1 keyword is still #1 and why some in the top 10 only dropped 1-3 slots while others fell several hundred positions, when I was doing the same SEO for all the keywords.
I hope that helps. At this point I will wait to see if things improve on their own in a couple days, but I am stopping the fiverr gigs and just going to focus on a couple of keywords to manually link build back to my site.
