Google Are The Biggest Hypocrites

Yesterday Matt Cutts said this:

The opposite of "white hat" SEO is something called "black hat webspam" (we say "webspam" to distinguish it from email spam). In the pursuit of higher rankings or traffic, a few sites use techniques that don't benefit users, where the intent is to look for shortcuts or loopholes that would rank pages higher than they deserve to be to be ranked. We see all sorts of webspam techniques every day, from keyword stuffing to link schemes that attempt to propel sites higher in rankings.
I just visited Google.com and plastered on the naked search page is this:

One massive advertisement that offers no value to search engine users and employs "black hat" techniques to increase traffic and ranking (notice the "google play" in the anchor text).

I can't help but feel aggrieved at how hypocritical this company is becoming.

LOL! Google is a business. What, they can't advertise their business?!?!?!?

Ever see an ad on Fox for American Idol? Go figure...

Come on people, google is a business. A huge, very successful
business that could care less about what IM people think.

Watch out. While we opine away, google is yet again getting
all the press with the new Google Drive!

Oh yeah. Expect to see that little gem plastered all over their
    sites!

FYI: Google Android makes up more smartphone market share
    than iphone.

I suppose most people here have not heard of the newer
    "Google Play," either.

Like it or not, google is not in the business of keep us. They
don't need us. They could care less.

The sooner people wake up to this fact, the better.

Said this before today as well. Facebook profits down, google
    profits up!

LOL! Notice how they let you search youtube on that page as well?
Been doing that for ages...that mean google. They just spam their
video site! Not to mention Chrome, which is projected to overtake IE...
We won't even mention maps, gmail, docs, etc., all plastered on the page...

Arrhh, Paulgl, I knew you will drop by to defend your bride to be.

No pining from me: my sites actually soared in the rankings yesterday/today.

It is all about Hypocrisy. Google advocates what is fair play online but they themselves do not adhere to it.

Yes Paul, their profits will soar --no one is arguing that-- but they are doing it as a ruthless company.

People can complain about Google all day long and it will serve them no good, but on the same token - you can defend them as much as you like and they will screw you over when it suits them.

So everyone at the bottom loses but your position as Google's defender on the WF always adds spice to the conversation.

And making a comparison between Fox and Google is completely baseless. Please enlighten me how an entertainment group that promotes one of its programs on a property that it owns compares to a Search Engine that is peddling its wares (a phone) to information seekers?

This is because Crapdroid is on other lower tier smsrtphones and the large cesspool of crappy apps on android is just not cutting it when compared to Apple.

Where is this article ? google's CPC has gone down the last quarter. Facebook has seen a boost.

      Hi Paul

It is always enjoyable reading this and I enjoy your inputs. As much as I would like to agree with you I have several constructive criticism for Google.

Yes Google is a business but as every business in the USA there are some RULES! Did you forget United States v. Microsoft. Using your same line of thought then Microsoft could have won that case by saying I create the OS then I can put the web browser I want on it. WRONG!!! Microsoft lost the case.

Now, here is how it operates in Google these days. Since you talked about profits and compared those to facebook lets got to it.

What is happening now is that for every 1M dollars invested in Google stock holders are loosing about 5.6K YTD. Google stock is down 5.8 YTD compared to the REST of the market that is up. Since it seems you are a big fan of Google and its android phone lets take Apple (the most valuable company in the planet). For every 1M dollar invested in Apple, stock holders are winning 500K YTD. WOW that is what I call a great ROI.

So what happens is that the Board of directors get pissed at the CEO due to the poor stock performance. Larry Page & the gang develops the strategy to get more earning and better performance on the stock. How you get better earning by selling more PPC. Who are the people not buying PPC? The big corporations, CNN, New York Times, Facebook, etc. Since they do not but PPC it does not matter and they should rank top 10 on the SERPs. You squeeze the SERPs and force the medium and small business into the PPC and thereby increase your earnings. That is when Page talk to Cutts and he adjust the algo to force PPC.

That is what Pandas is all about. Forget about links, quality and more boring stuff that Cutts always says.

Now, since Jan 2012 I just forgot about Google. I have been working more on Bing and Facebook. My legal company name that is covered by ABC news, ZDNet, etc can not be found on Google after this update, just imagine how little I can benefit from Google. But the strategy has paid out. Today, my advertisement earning has triple. My traffic has triple and I am on the top 10 for many terms on Bing. The traffic coming from Facebook is at all time highs. Traffic coming from Google at all times low.

What does it means? Take control of your business and move on and forget about Google there are countless ways of creating traffic, etc. At the end if you have a good site and is excluded from Google it is only Google that is passing the opportunity of presenting good information in the SERPs

I hate how Google dichotomise everything as either "webspam" (what a clumsy word) or "quality content". A legit business that employs staff and has quality services/products that it provides to happy customers becomes "webspam" to Google if there's a few dodgy links pointing to their site. This just highlights the weakness in Google's algo - they don't accept false positives are now the NORM and not the exception to their bungling, ham-fisted algo.

LOL, It looks as thought they don't want anybody touching the first page of their search engine for this key term, only other websites are the New York Times and Techcrunch.

A nice pagerank 10 link should do nicely, play.google.com will have instant credibility with a pagerank of 9. I agree it spits in the face of people who work for years to build up a websites credibility. Just another example of how they manipulate the system in their favour.

Forget the fact that it's Google.

If a business owns two separate products, why wouldn't they cross promote those two products?

If you own two separate products, cross promote them, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Sigh... Google receives so much hate after algo changes.
    Where's the love?

I'm sure you were loving them when you got that first Adsense check,
or when you got your first page 1 ranking.

Tides have turned, and now they are suddenly your worst enemy.

Google doesn't make algo updates to say, let's get these guys sites off the first page to make them feel crappy...
They make algo changes because the sites that are appearing at the top shouldn't really be there, and it is a bad search experience for the user.

If your site got kicked back, then it probably didn't deserve to be there. Forget the concept of serps for awhile and think...out of the million pages on the internet about your topic, does your page's content deserve to be considered as top 10 out of millions of others?

Nah, no hate! I just don't like double-standards!

Google is synonymous to an employer in the real world (if you rely on them for your income). And you know how employees often congregate and speak badly about the boss everytime he/she does something that angers them. Well, that is basically what occurs on forums each time the bad a$$ boss messes with us
