Did Googles Algorithm Change Hit You or Help You?

Yesterday, Google made an algorithm change that has been talked about at great length. Like most of Google's changes, you can here plenty of people complaining about how badly they are being effected by the change and how SEO is dead because of it.

I just wanted to give everyone a chance to see if SEO is realy dead because of a change like this. In my opinion, SEO will never die. I just don't think that there will ever be a Search engine change that will make optimization impossible. As long as they try to rank sites, there will be stat geeks and testing guru's finding out what works and what doesn't.

For me, I have actually noticed an increase in traffic for the sites I have. I actually have had most of my larger content sites double in traffic. This result will not stay like this more than likely because the change just happened a day or two ago but the increase in my traffic was drastic.

One thing that I noticed, which seems to go opposite of the trend of complaints, is that my autoblog sites have also been gaining ground in the traffic arena.

I actually have an Authority autoblog that I built in November that has been climbing in traffic everytime there is a Google update.

So, what does that mean to you?

Well, it should mean that you don't have to believe that the sky is falling just because a few people are saying that they saw there traffic jump off a cliff. Autoblogs are supposed to be getting destroyed by Google but mine has jumped in traffic.

I want to encourage you to hang in there. Figure out what still works and still doesn't. If your sites get deindexed, figure out why, don't just give in because your frustrated. Try new things, even if your sites are deindexed you can still salvage them sometimes.

I have said this before but don't be a one trick pony. SEO is a great skill to have and you can really do well for yourself because of it but internet marketing is not about getting the best ranking in search engines. Internet Marketing is about making money and building a passive income business. SEO may be *FREE* traffic, in terms of dollars you spend, but you pay heavily in the amount of time you spend on SEO and the amount of money that you lose by not using some of the other types of traffic.

Keep building your SEO sites, test and re-test your data, and also build a list. While your testing your SEO, test a few paid traffic sources. They don't have to cost much so long as you know where to get traffic when you need it.

Don't do what I used to do, which is try to do what you think is the most convenient thing because you may think SEO is convenient because you don't have to spend money to get results but you really never know when a google change will come and wipe out half or all of your business. It happens all of the time.

The biggest point that I'm trying to make is that we are not SEO marketers, we are internet marketers. We are here to make money, not excuses, not to complain and not to blame others for our failed sites.

Keep your eye on the prize!

I really don't know why people build their entire business around somebody else's, I use to rely on Google for 99% of my traffic but after realizing you're at the mercy of the Google gods, I decided to diversify my traffic.... Best thing I did.

The importance of SEO will decline as people find information in more and more ways. Sitting around and over-reacting to every change Google makes is not good for anyone's health or business. They aren't the only show in town.

My thoughts are that SEO will continue to be important as long as articles are not keyword stuffed. And really, a keyword stuffed article/site isn't as helpful to readers who came for information or whatever else draws readers to the site.

Google makes an enormous load of money from its Adwords/Adsense program and to try to stabilize the price of Adwords and keep those clicks coming on sites that run Adsense, both the site and Google have to mutually hit some targets. If Adsense revenue becomes poor, a lot of people will use other methods of monetization. Unless Google is going to replace and increase that income from somewhere else...SEO will stay important.

I think one of the big lessons here is that stuffing is out and judicious use of SEO with useful information is in. If this affects their bottom line--their bottom line will cause some reconsiderations to be made.

I don't see backlinks going away, except perhaps in the future at some point in time when Google puts the breaks on sites with far too many backlinks and develops a refined set of probabilities against which they are measured.

It seems to me they are working on that now with text links that are all the same probably being devalued in some way. It would be my guess that they will further develop and refine probabilities which sites are blasting them.

I also assume with their tech expertise, they will set up something to determine the value of the text itself. If we are looking at robots coming that are supposed to be able to write articles for publication, there's no reason robots cannot deconstruct and rate them. And when that happens, it's going to be mayhem because you can bet that a one-size rating deconstruction will not fit all.

Just my thoughts, right or wrong. I'm watching this closely like everyone else and perhaps it will become more clear as time passes and what MC says or does not say. Sometimes what someone does not divulge is just as or even more important than what you hear.

I do agree they aren't the only show in town, and I'd certainly like to see warriors and others broadening their ability to draw in targeted readers from other methods.

Saw this the other day from John Legers Forum. Keyword - make money online #3 on page 1, make. Apparently no content at all keeps you ranked.

Somehow I don't find that even a surprise. It honestly seems to me that all the rearranging in the SERPS from the time they first let Panda loose was not that great. I do a lot of searches and often use Google. A great many times I get aggravated with the junk on the first page that doesn't answer the search. So, I try other SE's. I doubt I'm the only one.

There's a lot of boat rocking going on in the serps with all their changes and it doesn't always seem to work the right way. It's a waste of my time when junk shows up instead of something more closely targeted or bulls eye hits to the initial query.

All the changes remind me of what happens when changing management personnel in larger companies. The newer ones with the better degrees seem to trend toward trying what the old management quit doing because it didn't work. They do it because their bosses (often newer management employees themselves) need to see them innovating and trying what they think are new methods and using their degrees. Then all the management gets a big year-end bonus for working so hard:rolleyes:
