It's used to penalized website which has over optimized website including too many footer link on website or too many link used in left and right navigation as well as too much internal link used in content on same anchor text.

What do you guys consider over optimization?

If I use my keyword in the title of post, once in first and last paragraph, and 2 more times in content for a 500+ word article, and link back to my homepage url with the keyword as anchor text is that considered over optimization?

I have been using Clickbump theme for these sites that took a dive.

Definitely be careful of over optimizing for keywords. You don't want to spam your copy.

So I ask how would I optimize a 500 word article for the keyword "dog training" for example now in order to not do overoptimization but at same time let Google know that the page is about "dog training"?

Is the old ways of following on page strategies from all the so called experts out the window now such as 1% keyword density, bolding, underlining, keyword in title, link out to authority site with keyword, etc.?

Can someone give some feedback on this? How would you go about doing the optimization for this example to satisfy Google?

What exactly is over optimization? I still don't get Google's definition of over optmization. For them, anything and everything is over optimization.

It seems to be mainly lack of diversity in any of your activity and an unnatural link building velocity.

I should say, don't think about optimization so seriously then you will not do over optimization!!! Try to provide user friendly contents to your site. Spinning or rotating sentence is not recommend, people don't like to read this. So try to explain everything so simply.

Google has said numerous times that they want to combat 'webspam' and that they have no intention of destroying SEO.

So with that being said, I think overoptimization of link anchor text is a far bigger deal than overoptimization of article text.

I would worry far less about how many times your keyword appears in an article (assuming the article itself is written to be informative and useful) and worry far more about how diverse your anchor text is when building links.

Over Optimization is not all about on page SEO or keyword density, if you target only one keyword, and use that keyword anchor text in link exchange with other website then this signaling unnatural link building, which is consider as over optimization.
