Hey Guys

Before on-page strategy used to be having:

Having keyword in title
Keyword in first and last paragraph
Keyword density of 2%
Keyword in H2 and H3 Headings
Bold Italic and Underline the keyword

But seems as this is called over optimize now, so what does everyone suggest and what is everyone's views on what should be done now regarding it your targeting a keyword???

This is not over optimization. Google is targeting Anchor text links. Such as having 1000 links on blue widgets from sites that are not even close to being about blue widgets.

If you were targeting small blue widgets. What would you think the user would want to see?

Different types of small blue widgets
Different uses for small blue widgets
maybe some links to buy small blue widgets
how to use small blue widgets

For one webpage I may have a title
"5 different uses for Small Blue Widgets around your house"

    Then go into my list
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5

then have more articles linking at the bottom or in the middle of content if apporatiate linking to other articles about small blue widgets.

You will basically create A SILO structure to your website.

Category would be Small blue widgets

Then branch off with the other posts on how to use them, what to use them for and so on....

Yes So whatever the highest number of searches of keyword you are going after would often be at the top or near the top of your SILO. So If you have had webpage all about how to use small blue widgets. then I would have some anchor text "small blue widgets" , Some "click here" your "website Name" and mostly just the URL. The key is to mix it up and make it look natural.

Think about it how many times have you visited a website and posted the exact anchor text for someone else's site. I usually just copy and paste the URL.

Another thing to keep in mind is the type of links that you get. I usually go for relevancy. Build some web2.0 with Unique content and blast those with links to get PR.

With my big authority site I followed the above method with just writing content for users of my site for 6 months. I didnt do any linking on my own besides the interlinking on my own website. I started to rank for longer keyword terms. You should see where you rank for those and try to push them even higher with a few web2.0. This way it is very easy to increase your traffic with as little effort as possible in regards to back linking.

It is explained by Google that the new on page strategy for website optimization will be having content above the fold, Google had explained this to us in their own words about it: Page layout algorithm improvement - Inside Search

I think this must be the next on page strategy for website owners.
