I go on google webmaster tools forum a couple times a week to see what problems people are having so I can make sure I don't have the same problems. As of now I have never had any problems with google even though I don't really like them but what has been taking place this week is many people have been dropping like flies in search rank from what google is calling un natural links combined with something else which is what the latest update is about.

I try to have only back links from sites within my niche but know I have links from places like this forum because when you sign up we are asked what our website is and I see warrior fourm listed in webmaster tools as a link.

One thing I have noticed is a few niche links that I have the sites url was bought by another and has it 301 redirected and the site it takes you to has nothing to do with the site being redirected. I was thinking about trying to get them to remove the backlink to my site but was thinking the link is still listed as coming from the original site, should I still try and get rid of the link.

I also have about 6 or so links from places like this where someone bought another site that links to my site and isn't in my niche but was wondering since I have a little over 500 real good niche backlinks is it a big deal if I have some from outside my niche. What do you think and has anyone in this forum had any problems with there sites either vanishing or going way back in serp's because of this new google update. thanks Mark

    Totally Confusing post dude.
Actually i never think soooo much like you about the link building. I just build links. I don't care about what the hell is going with the site.
and still now i have no problem.

    Hi,

It can be a good thing to have links from outside your niche. If a site with a link to you was purchased by someone else, it got redirected, removed, changed, whatever... you didn't control that, therefore it was "natural". Change is natural, backlinks from outside your niche can be natural. So don't worry about it and just keep building your site and quality links.

I just try to stick to the rules of good practice and leave it at that.

    1. Getting links from your own niche does not work.
    2. It's not worth your effort to manually go and remove the links unless its a small number of them (10-20). Building links over those bad links will cover those "bad" links up.

This dude is correct, a backlink on a niche-related page has absolutely no extra relevance to ranking than a link on a non niche-related page, the only advantage is that visitors to the article/post may actually click through to your website, as the article/post is on topic.

I also believe that number 2 is correct, otherwise Googles whole system would collapse every time they do an update, if there's bad vibes from your backlinks I believe those bad vibes can be masked over time with more "good" backlinks (if there is such a thing as good backlinks), after all it's an algorithm shift not a site de-indexing penalty.

The hardest part is finding out where you went wrong, then masking it.

Thanks for all your comments. I have always heard that links from your niche meaning the industry you are in not just one page was much better then from outside because it is more relevant. I mean if someone had a baking site why in the world would they want links from a tool site. Isn't that all part of what google and yahoo look at to decide if your site is good or not.

Google can't rate the power of a link on what 'it' perceives as being niche related, that's why.

For example let's say Katy has her own personal blog about all things she likes and does in her life etc and one day she is talking about her friends wedding and the lovely cake they had made for them, and Katy decides to drop a link to the bakery of that cake, the bakery is called John's bakers and they rarely ever bake wedding cakes with no wedding cake content on their website either.

The blog post is about weddings primarily yet theres a nice juicy link to a bakery. How should google treat that? Should it say to itself 'oh we must devalue that link as it's not directly related to weddings, its just John's Bakers down the road who doesn't have any wedding cake material on his website and doesn't sell bridal dresses' ? no way! that bakery made a great cake and they deserve full link juice for it.

The point being no computer can make these judgements fairly to discount non niche related back links, human moderation is the only way that system could exist. By all means get niche related back links as someone may click through the link and it may produce a sale, but it won't give you any more extra link juice for in comparison to an identical link on a non-niche related blog post. The 'niche related back link equalling more link juice' myth is a sales tactic used by seasoned SEO's. Google will tell you that this myth is gospel too as that helps them deter people from getting backlinks easier in order to manipulate their search results.
