    Directory submission is mainly done for getting Backlink (both Dofollow and nofollow)
    it also gives you a little traffic to your website too.

    Whereas social media submission gives you both backlink and traffic.

      valid point, once we get a link through directories, google focused only the categories, the link is related to that category, google generates the traffic to that websites else the link will be terminated by moderator.

      google fixed as a spammer. be aware of categories while directories submissions

    These days I would just use them for indexing purposes. I can't see a huge SERP boost coming out of directories, specially after the latest updates.
