Should we delete the SEO plugins from our wordpress sites?

Should we delete the SEO plugins like All in One Seo from our wordpress sites because using them may cause over optimization penalty?

    No, just configure them properly. Use the canonical feature and the noindex feature on tag pages.

    I do not, and never have used the title, description and keyword fields for those plugins, only the architecture attributes.

    i have used the home title, home description and keywords.

    Checked = v'

    Canonical URLs: v'
    Rewrite Titles: v'
    Use Tags for META keywords: v'
    Dynamically Generate Keywords for Posts Page: v'
    Use noindex for Categories: v'
    Use noindex for Archives: v'
    Use noindex for Tag Archives: v'
    Capitalize Category Titles: v'

    The 'over optimization penalty' had more to do with offsite SEO than onsite.

        Read what Google said about the algorithm change and look at the sites that got hit. It's all right there.

        They went after webspam. Spammy backlinks in other words. Sites that were using those types of tactics, got crushed.

        Somewhere there was a message from Matt Cutts that he wished the term 'over optimization penalty' had never been used leading up to this update because it gave people the wrong idea. What they were after were sites that were 'over optimized' offpage, not onpage. But when webmasters heard that term, everyone assumed there was an update coming that was going to penalize onpage factors.

          Exactly. Those of us building links slowly and naturally were not hit at all, but also because we weren't using spun crap, profile links, etc. Just write content, publish it with a link back to your site. Vary your anchor texts greatly. And you won't be flipping out every time Google comes out with an update.

      Mike, I didn't do much offsite SEO. The things I did are:
      1 I submitted my site to 10-15 rss and directory sites
      2 I bookmarked my posts on 10-12 popular social bookmarking sites like Digg,stumbleupon,Folkd etc...
      3 I made a squidoo lens with 6 anchor links targeting my site.
      4 I uploaded two of my articles to doc sharing sites with links inside.
      Which of these do you think may have caused the penalty?

    I was on page 1 for my main keyword also close to the first page for the other keywords.
    Now that I'm completely lost except for my disclaimer page which is on the 4th page.
    My site is new. It's 75 days old.
    Can I get my ranking back if I delete all the backlinks I mentioned above.

      That is a pretty new site. Newer sites tend to bounce around a little more. When did you notice the drop in rankings?

      And when you said you uploaded 2 of your articles to doc sharing sites, were these articles that also appear on your site?

    The dop in rankings happened on April 23.

      There is no need to stop using Seo plugins to Rewrite Titles, after all a non-wordpress html site will have a proper page title like i.e : ww.acnecure/the-best cure-for-acne. So why have a meaningless one for wordpress? This is not 'over-optimization', if it was, all html site would be penalized.
