Penguin: More Onsite Than We Think?

I paid this guy $5 on fiverr to analyze why my site was penalized by Penguin.. and he said its mainly ON site...

My site has many above the fold call to actions and he said this is something Penguin looked it..

This is an interesting thought becuase I swear i saw something on an algo update that was aimed in this direction.

Its also kind of nuts for G to penalize for bad backlinks .. do you think maybe we're blaming it on the backlinks too much?

I have a site which wasn't affected by Penguin and it has more affiliate links in relation to the content than my sites which were affected so I don't think affiliate links play much of a factor.

So the guy on Fiverr that you paid $5 to, is an expert on Penguin is he?

Heck, I'll give him $10 and he can also sort Panda out.

A fiverr gig sorts out the Penguin update less than 1 week it has been rolled out!?!

Hmm it looks like an easy way to get hit and scared webmasters to spend some moniez on his gig.

    Hey guys --

I realize no one on Fiverr should really be trusted with Penguin advice, one week after it hit...

But it was an interesting perspective.

I mean, it wuold make more sense for G to penalize onsite over optimization than backlinks, IMO

I recently wrote a rather large in depth article on another forum that proposed this concept. I believe that Google is indeed analyzing onsite factors, with above the fold, being a significant part of the algorithm update.

I've analyzed a lot of sites that have stuck/rose in the SERPs, compared to those that were absolutely obliterated. After writing the post and theory, I received no less than 20+ PM's which helped confirm my theory.

In essence, websites that have large sitewide above-the-fold images/forms that DON'T have much visible content are at risk or have already seen drops in rankings.

Think along the lines of insurance/lead gen, affiliate sites, large optin forms, large images, etc. Google wants CONTENT to be king, if your content is heavily optimized AND below the fold, its likely the reason why your site saw a huge drop in rankings.

      Hi RevSEO,

It is more than just a theory, it was an update that Google publicly announced back in January.

Page layout algorithm improvement - Inside Search

If you were reading this forum on a regular basis you would have noticed the many threads on that same topic back in January of this year.

Let me google that for you
