The common factor, which I have always maintained, between both these Google updates is the reinforcement of the "Content is King" adage.

The specifics have obviously been to crack down sites with spammy backlinks and poor content, but then that's bound to only get stricter with each update :O

Google unleashed the Panda on Feb 24 2011. And immediately, it made its mark and hit so many blogs and websites that the entire ranking structure was shaken, with new websites coming at the top while some old established websites dipping down. According to Google, it was aimed at filtering "thin or low quality content". Since its launch, Google have made changes to it 13 times as of 20th April 2012. And a total of 12% websites have been effected by this update.

So has the influence of the update stopped or will it continue to affect more websites?

Google Panda Update and Penguin Update both gives same conclusion for websites:
    1. Remove low quality content
    2. keyword spamming
    3. Less internal linking
    3. Quality and relevant backlinks.

Both algorithms are established to combat web-spam and promoting great quality content and organic links. I don't see the point of differentiating these two algorithms but perhaps there are individuals out there, who are willing to share tips and advice that work well despite these changes.

For me Google Panda Update is more focus on the rankings of sites, while Google Penguin Update is more on looking for sites that are manipulating the SERPs but not totally dealing with rankings..They are devaluing spammy sites..

Here's a tip. Set up your G+ account and follow Matt Cutts, watch his videos and read the posts he recommend. Follow that and you won't have to worry about any Penguin, Panda, Bear, Bear with Machine Gun on Jetski, etc.

It's a most stupid idea to penalty sites for spam backlinks because basically webmaster cannot control it. For example i do have xrummer i can spam competitors and google penalty them. This would entail a massive spamming competitors to go higher in a serp and webmaster have nothing to do with that.

IMHO Panda was perfect, penguin is a most stupid algorithm i ever seen. SERP results is not relevant.

    ps
none of my sites was affected
