Are micro-niche blogs still worth it?

First-time poster. I mostly just lurk but I have a question that I would value everyone's input on.

Today I came across a certain niche that is almost untouched in terms of cometition. No EMDs, no Adsense sites, most of page 1 has 0-5 backlinks, and one particular niche within this niche gets 30,000-40,000 global searches a month.

Now if this was a year to 6 months ago I would've bought domains already and I wouldn't be asking this question at all. However, because Google has done a big update, I was wondering if the whole micro-niche game is still worth playing? I've heard nothing but horror stories and I really don't want to go and spend $100 on domains if it's not worth it anymore.

    I don't have the answer for you, but what i will say is if i found a niche even if it be a micro or not and it has that volume of searches and is so easy to rank for i would not be asking silly questions. Regardless of Google updates, Google loves what it has always loved Unique content if you can have that to your site for that keyword then you will be posting your success stories on the WF in no time and i look forward to seeing it there

    I would say you dont need to buy all the domains. I speak from experience when i say you only need the 1 domain to become an authority site. When i was registering one of my previous sites i had a good domain name in mind and i purchased a .net because the .com was not available. The .com was a very similar website and eventually i outranked that site and they did not renew their subscription after 18 months. I still did not purchase the .com as i only needed the 1 to dominate. I guess you could do a 301 to link them all to a .com but its a lot of money before it takes off. I would stick with 1 and when it starts making money then purchase the next as they come but if you have money to just invest like this then go ahead.

    Also, make sure your Keyword Analysis was correct just encase your keyword is not [keyword] and it could be Keyword which means its just phrase searches and will give you a completely wrong reading. E.G;

    Solar Panels - phrase gets Global: 3,350,000 | Local: 673,000
    Solar Panels - Exact gets Global: 246,000 | Local: 90,500

    I know that is still a lot of searches but look at the change in volume i would hate for you to purchase $100 worth of domains to find out your searches are only <20 a month

    Best of luck

      It's exact and phrase search. I don't really care about broad search until I'm analysing competition on the Google search results. The smaller ones get around 3000-5000 searches a month. 10 domains in that one niche, one clearly bigger than the others and the others maybe having a CTR of 1-2% and it'll be worth the investment.

    YES!!! they sure are. My small 5 page websites are booming after the recent update. Literally all my smaller type sites have hit the first page or grabbed number 1 spot. I'm seeing a lot more traffic then i was before and my revenue has jumped over 80% on what i was earning before the update.

    I think the update is more about spam type links then anything else. So YES! micro niche type sites are still booming!
