I think rather than going through all of those methods and deciding which is good or bad you just need to:
    • Concentrate on links which are HIGHLY RELEVANT to your website, i.e. if your site is about "BBQ Recipes" then try to get links from other high quality BBQ recipe websites in your niche
    • A varied link profile i.e. NOT all the same type of link
    • Include nofollow links to make your link profile more natural
    • Reduce the number of times you use the same anchor text to rank for your target keyword to less than 50%, and link back using just your domain URL

    I agree with OP!

You need to create links naturally, don't think of your main keyword, use sub keywords, and other phrases like "click here" "view my website", "home page" "my personal website" etc. in anchor text, it would look natural.

Links obtained from those sources which send traffic to your site is still effective I would say.

Relevancy is still needed so try to put your site on relevant sites for better result.

Of course, you have to post unique and quality content on your site regularly for better response.

If you post some quality and fresh articles to top article directories then other people would like to link to your article, this way you are creating natural links too.

The final verdict is to engage Google bots with quality content on your site - and more importantly, get relevant contextual backlinks. These two tips (broadly) are enough to entice Google for a long time to come :0
