My First Adsense Website

Believe it or not I never heard of Adsense until I came to this forum. I've been doing web design and programming for the past 4 years, and SEO for the last year, so I feel pretty qualified to take on Adsense.

For the past week I've been looking at Flippa.com completed auctions to see which Adsense websites make money, based on there design, content, seo, etc.I still can't believe that people make $1,000+ from other people clicking on Ads... I can't remember the last time I've clicked on an Ad on a website.

Anyways, I decided to start out with PLR articles to get ideas for niches. I have about 50,000 PLR articles on pretty much every niche there is. I decided to buy a PR1 domain on GoDaddy about "learning", and I'm going to use subdirectoies to target a variety of topics. i.e.:

website.com/indoor-plants/feng-shui-indoor-plants

Doing about 15-20 pages per sub-directory.

All content is 100% unique and written by me after reading the article on the niche. Well, that's pretty much it for now. Just wanted to get some of your opinions on adsense sites using PLR with sub-directories instead of niche sites. Thanks!

My articles are short, between 200-500 words around a tightly focused niche topic. All titles are researched in Google adword keyword tool to find key-phrases that have 200 - 500 Global Monthly Searches. Making sure to avoid non-keyword-rich words (such as "a" "how to" "top" "the" "of" etc). The body of the article has high keyword density for the terms I am targeting. Also, I use about 3-4 sub-topics that get about 100-300 Global Monthly Searches.

PLR articles are from Torrents and downloads from "black hat" Forums.

The site isn't up yet, so here is a .jpg. Any advice would be apprectied. (Also the header / logo isn't done yet either)

I'll give you my 2 cents. I've been doin' Adsense for a couple years and its my primary source of $$$.

I don't ever mess with link units. In order to get a paying click. Someone will have to click the link unit--which will take them to a sort of search results looking page, and then they have to make another click...then you get the $$$.

Whereas if you just put text based ads down. People only need to click once in order for you to get $$.

Other than that. The whole "Featured Sites" and "Related Topics" headers for those ad units is skating on thin ice in terms of breaching google TOS--as it can be argued that you are drawing attention to your ads...leading people to believe they are internal links.

Also, if I was you, I'd be throwing some larger text units in or above the content (not just in the sidebars) for a better CTR.

    Goodluck dude.

Thanks for the tips. I'm aware that link units need double clicks, which sucks. I've disabled the ads on the posts/pages in wordpress, but there will be 2x 250x250 square text ads at the top of every page, below the title.

Yea nice bro..that's pretty much how I rock it as well.

Also, I know your going to be using pages. But I see you got a feed link up the top right.

So if you're going to have a blog element, you should seriously think about building a feedburner subscription list from the get go.

This guy called Yukon that posts here put me onto it and I've been making some good bank with it.

Just gotta figure a good angle to get people interested in subscribing...once I've done that I usually have an opt in in the side bar or coded to appear at the end of posts.

If you wanna check it out...here's the op: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...rner-time.html

I'll check out feedburner. Also, would you recommend using Posts or Pages?

I also have the HeatMap Theme Pro 5, and I'm thinking about doing something like this with ClickBank Ads:

    HeatMap WordPress Adsense Theme Demo

At the top click on "authority auto blog"

Also, I really like this design: http://phlebotomytrainingnews.com/

It just sold on Flippa and is making $1,300 / month. Although, with a design layout like that, I think it would be better not to use Wordpress. Rather create custom html/css pages for each micro-niche and include them as a sub-directory to the main site.

lol good ol' heatmap. I remember using their free theme back in the day.

Nowadays I just mess around and tinker with free themes until they look and act how I want them to.

      Posts or pages?

I dunno man. With the sites I build. I go for pages (but that is just because of the type of sites I make). But in saying that, I almost always have a blog attached. I just try to figure out an angle...A reason to post updates at least once a month. And a good reason for people to sign up to get updates (feedburner).

You can have pages and sub-pages in wordpress and also have a dedicated page that has your blog loop running. Or you can just run the blog loop on the front page.

I've never messed with clickbank either.

Let me know if you like this design better. It's basically a copy of Phlebotomy Training | Phlebotomy Certification | Phlebotomy Jobs | Phlebotomy Training News which I personally think is a pretty fantastic Adsense website. It seems that the ugliest 1990 HTML websites do the best for adsense. The bad thing about this is that it doesn't use wordpress. The good thing is that I'll be able to customize every page using HTML / CSS. Let me know which you think is better.

It's pretty decent for Adsense. It looks like you have Four Ad Boxes on the page. Google only allows 3 Maximum otherwise you are breaching their T&C's, I've heard of accounts being disabled for this reason.

It works though as an adsense site, nice one!

I like the layout of the site you mentioned as well. It's looks like CTR Theme. It's easy to set up and it'll rotate the position of the ads on each refresh to keep things interesting.

I would not go with that wordpress theme at all, for Google is really starting to hate websites with above the fold ads. If you use this theme there is a very strong chance your ranking will lower and be banned from adsense!

I'm sure the guys at Google must really hate getting billions of dollars per year from Ad revenues. After researching hundreds of sites on Flippa.com that make $500+ / month, almost 100% of them have most, if not all ads above the fold.

That theme you pointed out. Yea it's CTR using the "roadblock" setting. I've never used it but it looks ok.

What Murphy is referring to is a publication by Matt Cutts. He says that websites that display no content, and only ads above the fold will be de-valued somewhat by Google search engine.

I dunno. I have always had ads above the fold and continue to do so. But in saying that--I always have some content above the fold also.

It looks like crap but I think it would be good for adsense. I designed the above theme in HTML/CSS in about 15 minutes... My plan is to create sub-directories on my main domain for all the niches. Then, rename the PLR article titles using keywords / phases researched using Google adwords. I'm trying to do about 5 niches / day with 10-15 pages per niche.

Ha, yea...it tends to work like that ay... oddly enough.

Lately I've been more concerned with Aesthetics over CTR. I've basically sold up everything to focus on one website.

What's the go with PLR articles anyway? I've always just assumed they were articles that had already been syndicated all over the intertubez.

Remove 2 of the pictures above. I have not seen your site yet but from the screenshot. 90% of your "above the fold" is 0 content. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.

and if I'm right, my advise would be to display at least 50% content above the fold to be on the good side of google.

My worry is if you have just downloaded these articles from torrents then the chances are they are already around the net. If you go to copyscape then you will see just how unique they are before you start placing them on your site or you could be penalized very quickly and de-indexed
