Too much anchor text to page, take it down and let it 404?

One of our sites has way to much anchor text money keywords to a particular landing page. I wonder if taking down the page and letting it 404 would help the rest of the site, if we can't remove the keywords?

Would Google still count these anyways?

    are you talking about little variation in the anchor text of external backlinks that point to your site/page? i have same problem that i need to correct.

    yes, i have 90% of my on site links going to one particular landing page and most of them are one money keyword. From my experience most of the sites that got dinged didnt have enough variation, so I'm curious if i take this page down, let it 404 and make a new page with a different URL, maybe it will help?

    I'm thinking at the very least if it is 404'd, webmasters will hopefully eventually remove links as they see they are linking to a 404 page.
