Has Google just opened up Pandora's box?

Is it now possible for black-hatter's to scramble a competitor's rankings just by building a crappy link profile for them?

Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable approaching a business model this way, but if history teaches me anything, when there's money at stake, the range of ethics guiding other people's business practices is all over the map.

I imagine there's at least one guy out there somewhere running an experiment on this right now. If it works, then of course we'll all be seeing that in a WSO a year from now--a week before Google makes an update to correct it.

Seriously, is this now a possible scenario?

Welcome to 2011 reality. It's not a typo. This was possible last year - and you're seeing the implications now. Next update (hopefully) Google will close that gap.

If you have doubts, follow this plan:

    Choose one URL of YOURS.
Fiverr / 5$ gigs for a kazillion backlinks - the spammiest the better.
Give it a couple weeks to get indexed (if any of them gets indexed...)
Then report YOUR own URL logged OUT of gmail/google (ask a friend in different city to report you in their spam report form)
    Wait some days...

and see for yourself IF it's a possible scenario or not.

Its possible. Especially for sites with little-to-no authority. Newer sites are going to be the most susceptible to negative SEO. But if you see a mini-sites with an exact match domain sitting in the first position, I'm sure you could get it penalized by blasting the mess out of it and reporting it. I think Google is going after a certain type of marketer. I think established SEOs with resources and a diverse skill set will be fine. I also think the days of mid-qaulity Adsense sites and mini-sites are numbered.

If the website is strong, i think this method will not affect, becouse there are really strong competition inside, and always someone will want to do such things like this, but is impossible
