Hi, I've had a blog for a long time. It was already indexed, but had no post in it. Yesterday, I added a 700+ words post to it. Should I ping my site and if so, which pinging tool should i use?

I read somewhere that pining is bad post-penguin; I just wanted to confirm. If pinging is bad, then how can I get my site/post get indexed? Thanks.

No, it doesn't get you ranking, but I just want my new post to get indexed.

      Hi, thanks for the reply.

How long does it take to get my post indexed? Also, should I ping my main page (where all my blog posts are shown) and post page separately, or is it enough if I ping my main page alone?

Pinging is not bad. Pinging is used for notify search engine to crawl your website although it can be crawled without pinging. Over ping is bad and your site can be tagged as spammer. Pinging not guarantee your site will be indexed. Search engine will index it based on value and quality of your site.

This is indeed the primary benefit of pinging and i can confirm that it still works today just like it did before the penguin update.

If your website or article has fresh and unique content then search engine will automatically find it,no need to ping it.Although there is no disadvantage of pinging

No, pinging isn't bad. It's just a way for your websites to get indexed by Google or notifying search engines that there's this new content on your website.

pinging is bad when it comes to bulk backlink building, in your case go ahead and ping your site and get that page indexed. bulkping, pingfarm may come handy

You can use pingomatic to ping your blog post, its better if you can share your post on social media website, which can helps you in getting traffic and indexing as well.

Sounds strange to be #2 already. Make sure you aren't getting personalized results. You can use the tool in my signature if you are unsure.

These answers aren't entirely correct, pinging CAN be bad..if you use the wrong tool or don't know what your doing. A lot of pingers out there, especially some of the ones named, do not allow scheduling and they only ping ONCE.

The truth is, it usually takes more than one ping for your links to get crawled. 2 or 3..sometimes even 5 or 6 times. So you need to get an automatic pinger that tracks crawls and pings until Google crawls.

You also want a scheduler..this is where pinging can hurt you. If you build 10,000 links..and you ping all of them with a pinger that doesn't drip the pings out..your site will go from 0 links pointing at it to 10,000 or so and it will look unnatural and probably hurt your SERPS.

Linklicious.me will not only ping at a guaranteed 100% crawl rate for paid accounts, it allows your to schedule so that you can drip them out at a natural rate.

You should clear your Cookies and Cache first. It's Best to check via the official SERP checker of Google: tools4google.com.
I think it's giving the most reliable SERP information.
