Keyword Density - How to Check?

Ok ok, of course I know how to check it.

But --- what I have never understood is this:

So imagine your word is dog food, and the checker scans the page and shows

Dog 7.76%
Food 4.56%

..
....
.....
Dog Food .50%.


When I see all that -- how do I determine what the density is?

    I am trying to edit my site and fix up and reduce my density down to 2-3%. That is all I am asking.

    what yukon is saying is the keyword density shouldn't matter to you so much. Focus on creating a good article that reads well. No words should sound out of place. Simply put, don't force it. And the best way to not force it is by writing naturally.

    I'm not saying don't be strategic about your content and what not. Just stop putting so much emphasis on meeting a keyword density quota.

    For dog food, just write naturally and try to use words like puppy; mention some of the popular brands; etc. Instead focusing on KWd, put effort into creating a great title. That kind of stuff goes alot further than worrying about keyword density.

    Yes
    I know all about writing naturally and I've read a lot about it, especially recently.

    I know density is over. Etc. etc.


    But I just want to use a density checker to quick scan an old site with a lot of content so I can see which ones need to be toned down.

    If you use Wordpres, you can try an SEO plugin like Wordpress SEO. It can analyze the page and tell you your the KWd among other things.

    You can use SeoQuake add on in your Mozilla firefix browser for checking keyword density.
