Penguin - Does it affect ON-site at all?

I am reading all the "advice" given in the last few days after Penguin but i figure that 80% of the "advice" is really just blah-blah (sorry) - and we're only *slowly* getting some good ideas/posts what to do and what the factors are which play the big role in regards to the Penguin slap.

ONE question i have is whether Penguin is solely based on link building (anchor text diversity, domain authority etc.) or whether it also affects "on-site" over-optimization and things like internal links.

The problem is there is zillions of blogs and sites with "SEOs" giving tips but no indication whatsoever whether the "tips" are more than just speculation of fabulation. For example if people claim that over-optimization ON-PAGE also plays a role etc...

To me it looks like that the penguin slap is solely coming from "bad" link-building but has nothing really to do with on-site factors?

Google always wants us to believe how important content-quality is...but then the current screwed up search results 100% contradict this....it's almost as if content itself ignored now and factors like "domain authority" (.edu, .gov) are far more important than actual content...

    Hi Georg,

Based on the analysis of my sites that were hit it does appear to be off-site issues rather than on site which have been penalized.

Having said that, I am getting a kick out of all of the so called "experts" who are claiming to know exactly what happened and have no data to back it up. I actually watched a video this morning and it claimed the exact opposite to what I have seen from my analysis.

I agree. Alot of the advice on this forum and many others are really BS. The problem is that no one really knows how google ranks, all people have to go off is the small and vague post that Matt C puts out there.

I think that the panda update is mostly about on-page content, with the penguin update being about backlinks and other SEO.

    My tips:

1.) Diversify your anchor text. I think relevant Backlinks are Key.
2.) Build an Authority site. Focus content on Long tail keywords.
3.) Diversify your traffic sources. Go where your niche hangs out.
4.) Start building an Email list. This is a constant source of traffic on tap.

With an authority website, You will build content that will focus on long tail traffic. You will make more money with that long tail because it is much more focused. You will give your readers a reason to keep coming back because you will have so much content for them to digest.

Anyway that is what I recommend.

Everything I have looked at points to Penguin being 100% offpage.

The only people I have seen say otherwise are a couple of backlink sellers masquerading as SEOs trying keep people from fleeing from their WSO's.

My opinion is that it is both. If anything, I'd say it's 75% on-page and 25% off-page. The off-page factor being repetitive exact match anchor texts that previously didn't tip any filter.

I've seen sites which are exact match getting a high percent of external links looking like "ExactMatch.com" causing them to be penalised too for that exact match phrase.

For on-page, I've seen sites with repetitive internal linking (without any spammy, unatural external links) being penalized on the 24th.

A health community's rankings that I monitor suffered simply because they had keywords hyperlinked with same anchor 100's of times on the same page. So if they have "cancer" mentioned 10 times on a page, it was hyperlinked 10 times to a page they want to rank for "cancer".

Likewise sites with blantant keyword stuffing in content AND in the titles were also affected.

I've got some problems with indexing my website. Domain name is more than 1 year old. Website is new, one month old. Everything was submitted including sitemaps. SEO is on good way. We also build backlinks. But God damn google does not want to index thousands of pages. Here comes a question. Does that questions is only related to backlinks and building high pr links?

Yes its is but relevancy is the most important parts if you're building backlinks for you website. after submitting content on your site, social bookmark all the urls and then submit them to pingler . com for fast process.
