How to use article directories for link building?

I've done some blog commenting before, but want to diversify my link building efforts. Many people use a lot of article directories, but I have no experience with it yet. I have several questions.

1. Can I take an article I have already written for my website and then submit this article to an article directory? If I do, will this devalue the original content on my site since it will now be posted in two places?

2. Which article directories are good for getting dofollow backlinks? I don't want to do any automated submissions.

3. When I submit to these article directories, do I add the link directly to the original article page on my site into the article submission?

4. Are articles automatically approved or is there a moderation process?

As you all can see, I am complete newbie to this aspect and can use all the suggestions I can get. Thanks. When replying, please assume I know nothing about article directories and you will be right on.

    1. Do not post same content multiple times on other sites with your links. always use different content to get valuable link.

    2. there are many dofollow article directories available (use search function)

    3. Yes you can...

    4. Its upto the site owner, if the site moderation is ON then you have to wait for the approval.

Ok, so let's say I have an article about how to peel oranges correctly on my website. And I want to link to it in an article directory. Do I write a completely separate article about for example how to pick oranges and then link to the article for peeling oranges?

And if I am going to all the trouble to write a second article, wouldn't it be more worthwhile for me to just add a page to my website with the second article and keep the content for myself? Then although I may get fewer visitors (because of fewer backlinks) to my article on peeling oranges, but I will get more total visitors because I now have an article on picking oranges.

If someone could give me a step by step for building links with article directories it would be appreciated.

Matt Cutts would say yes, just put the article on your website.

But adding one extra article that gets no traffic isn't doing you any good now is it. The point of article marketing is to get traffic first, but there is also the SEO value.

If you feel it is a lot of trouble to write 1 400 word article you are in the wrong business. IM is not for the lazy.

It's not trouble to write an article. I have written plenty. But I just wonder if it is more valuable to put the article on my website or post it to an article directory. Most of the articles on my site get 5-10 visitors a day without me ever submitting to an article directory yet.

    1. No. Don't use article from your website or from others website and post the same in article directories. This would create problem in ranking your site. Since if you put the same title in search and your site may list below the article directories.

    2. There are huge list of free article submission websites. Just have a simple search in Google. Pick up the top site with high page rank in it. A few may be ezine articles, article base, article dashboard, go article etc. Never go for automated submission.

    3. No need to add link in the article content while you submit article directories. Since most of the article submission sites won't accept content with link in it.

    4. All article are not approved as you submit. It will be approved based on the moderation. A few sites may reject the article. So you need to follow the guidelines before you do article submission.

    Thanks

Apart from article directories, you can also submit articles to other websites/blogs by contacting the webmasters directly. In my opinion, this is a better link building strategy. Most webmasters will gladly accept your articles in return for two back links if your articles are related to the topic and at least 450 words long.

    • You can use the same article that you have published on your site, but this is not recommended. Write a unique post and submit it to article directories. You can link to any page of your website. Some article directories automatically approve your post, while others will require you to wait for approval.

Thanks everyone. I have one final (hopefully) question.

I write a special article not on my site already for submitting to article directories. Should I submit this to only one article directory or is it OK to submit this same article to several?

It would seem that Google would be able to tell if the articles were exactly the same and devalue the links if I submitted the same article to multiple directories.

Your can submit one article in multiple article directories. You can not face the problem of devalue original content. For article submission, u need log in details, if you carry same user name (Author name) then Google understand it that it is submitted by same person not a spam.
So, you can submit one article in many article directories.

Do others agree with this? I kind of want to get a consensus before moving forward.

One can post their Articles about their product or services in the websites listed in the directries to increase the traffic and backlinks to the website.

Well, you obviously don't read the posts you reply to or have anything reasonable to contribute.
