After all those Google changes for the past month or so seems to me that having keyword in domain is Not important as used to be, doing keyword research I see a lot of sites ranked in the Top 3 spots without having keyword in domain as you can see just one example site is ranked #2 on Google for competitive term "tinnitus miracle" without having any keyword in domain relative to tinnitus...regardless particular site is ranked #2 because of backlinks but still it has no kw in domain... I would like to hear your warriors opinion on this..

#anymore #domain #important #keywordrich

I do think that using keyword in domain name does not matters a lot. If you use keyword in domain name then you can get top one position for longterm otherwise it is possible that someone who is using keyword in domain grab your position. There should be relevancy in title, domain and content.

Ranking depends on link building that you do. Keyword rich domain are an added advantage to get ranked on top position.

I've been testing this recently and I launched a new blog (blogspot) about a week ago with a keyword rich domain and it is already on Google's second page in their blog search results pages. If I search for it with "quotes", the blog is on the first page.

The keyword phrase is 'press release writing service'. If you perform the search you should see this URL come up:

        Press Release Writing Service

The blog is so new I haven't even finished setting it up! But I have been building back links to it. I worked on it a bit today and I'll probably finish it next week.

About 2 months ago, I register a new exact domain name. About 1 week later after publish some articles, I saw it's on page 1. Though it's just keyword in low-medium competition, but the point is I didn't build any single baclink or running any campaign. So the only reason why it's on page 1 is because the exact domain name. But I don't know if exact domain name is give a different affect with keyword rich domains.

I would have to agree on the EMD not being as important in page 1 rankings as before the new update. My own experience was with 2 domains that had EMD of specific product on amazon. After some unique content and on-page SEO, I was on page 1 in 24 hours with both sites.

I received some decent traffic and made sales quickly. So I was stoked and thought hey pretty cool. But then the update came and wiped away my rankings. Sandboxed both of them.

I don't think this is related to the latest Google update at all.

I saw a study once (sorry I don't have a link) that basically showed how a very small percentage of results in the SERPS had the keyword in the domain name. May be in the full URL, but not necessarily the main domain name. And a very small percentage of serps had an exact match domain in the top 10.

Think about it... most "real" businesses don't necessarily have their "main" keyword as their business name, and thus not in their domain name.

Having a keyword in the domain obviously still has some weight though, and it looks like all the other sites in your example have the keyword, thus proving this.

radivoj - Obviously an EMD isn't, and never has been, the only ranking factor to get on the first page of Google. In your 'tinnitus miracle' example you would have to investigate further to get a better understanding of how the second site got there.

That said, doesn't it say something, though, that 4 out of 5 in your screen shot do have an EMD or at least a variation?

      Peace

Depends on the keywords being targeted. Though they're definitely not what they once were. Not even close.

But with low competition keywords it can still give you a decent advantage.

For low competition niche sites it matters because you aren't going to spend a lot of time on SEO and you don't have to. For larger niches and higher competition it doesn't matter all that much.

I haven't seen any real changes to the effectiveness of EMD's in the last month. They are still going strong for low competition niches.

I am not saying that EMD's domain has no effect at all when is come to SEO, I am just point out that are not important to Google as used to be 6 month or year ago, but still with quality content good ON page, high PR links will definitely climb the ranking, EMD's domain or without kw in domain either way...

    Is it really true?
If so, is it no need to put keywords in contents?
So, what will do if just post an article in blog without a keyword?

I don't really understand your post but I think it might have been directed at me. If so, I'm not sure what you are talking about. The OP asked about keyword-rich domains. They are, and always have been, unnecessary if you truly know SEO.

It's always a bonus if you get a domain on searched keywords. Moreover your searched keyword domain comes always on the first. Like: if you search "seoserviceprovider" then what do you see? Just like your "tinnitus miracle"

Well, why is it that when you search for the long tail key word term "Merchant Services America" which has obvious high competition, you bring up the web site with those same keywords at the top of Page one??? I agree back links and quality content are important, but before that was done to that website, It got up to number one in a few days. To boot, there's been zero SEO activity done to that website for 5 months now, yet it's still coming up number one. I think keyword rich domains are priority/foundation when building a website, and then adding in all the other elements of SEO after are important too.

This is a lie, Keyword domain rich will always be a factor their would be no reason for Google to ever not use this in their algorithm and not to mention would be a HUGE change to web rank all over the net.

There are plenty of reasons for Google to remove it as a ranking factor; most notably, the myriad of lazy affiliate marketers that build crappy affiliate sites, purchase $2 "quality" articles, and then rely on underwaterdigitalcamerasunder300dollars.info to rank.

Eventually, it will be virtually eliminated as a factor (except in branding situations). Count on it.

Think of EMD's as a resume'...

There are 2 candidates for a job, both have 5 years experience, both have a Bachelor's degree...

Which one gets the job? The one with Master's degree.

EMD is like the "one-up" always will be a plus to have it.

They can still rank, but only with a clean link profile.
