Why have my impressions dropped?

Hi Guys

I have an adwords campaign with a decent click through rate and I have been in position 1 - 2 for my ad. I decided to lower my cpc from £0.20p to £0.15p. I have the same average position, the same clickthrough rate, but far less impressions!

Why could this be? It seems like a but of a scam on Googles part!

I'm sure thats not the case as the impressions are much lower on every keyword that I have lowered the bids on. They have been steady for weeks and are very popular keywords. The drop only happened after I lowered the bid.

i've seen that happen - but only for very targeted niches where there is almost no competition. it's weird but if the bidding auction includes only you (or only a few and you're last in the auction rank), it seems like you can kind of "lose the auction" and miss out on the impression - so a lower bid = lower impressions.

there is a google video somewhere in the forum where i think the answer might be explained - the guy talks about how the LOWEST bidder in the auction has to pay the "minimum bid for the auction" (but he does not explain how that mysterious number is calculated)... so i assume that, in that particular auction, if your 0.15 bid is below the minimum, then you miss out on an impression you might have got with a 0.20 bid.

It happens from time to time especially during weekends...
