They run Panda and Penguin updates to take away your traffic, and then send you a "try our paid advertising promo to get more traffic" through the USPS.

Makes sense, did they send you anything?

Well it's not really a secret - in their Google Professional course (free and open to everyone ) one of the first things they teach you is that the quality of the search results and advertising increases user interaction, and therefore their profits.

    The ides is WIN-WIN-WIN.

After all Panda and Penguin are good things - why should be people create content just for spider bots? Why should people autoblog and spin articles.

    This is just common sense.

Yes, they sent me a letter and a $100 Coupon Card to try AdWords.

I agree that any black hat tactics should not be rewarded. But I've also seen 1,000's of complaints on this forum and other forum about legitimate sites that dropped in the rankings too.

I had a few sites that actually increased quite well for a number of keywords after the last Penguin update. I'd been working very hard doing legitimate SEO and was glad to see that.

I just laughed at the timing of Google's mailing in regards to all of these updates.

        Congrats.

I used AdWords way back around 2007 or so, before they frowned so scornfully upon affiliate sites. Starting about three years ago, they've sent me a £100 GBP "Come Back" coupon around the same time each year. The good thing about being in the UK is that that £100 GBP coupon equates to ~$160 at today's exchange rate. Multiply that by three and there's some well-received generosity.

Not sure if there'll be any more to come, but I've happily redeemed each one received thus far and have the credit accumulating in my account, ready for such a time as when I need it. Not that I expect a few hundred quid to go too far.

Be sure to redeem ASAP if you intend to, because the code itself expires after a few weeks, but once redeemed the credit should stick around in your account indefinitely.

        Lol, you cracked the code!

You do realize that Google has been sending out free $100 coupons since they first started up, right? They've been sending me those coupons for years...

    Well,

All these updates done by Google are Actually in Favor of Legit Website owners who do things normally but never get the traffic they should get!

After the Penguin Update My blog got ranked on 1st page and 10th position for a very high competition keyword!

If you're not breaking any of the Google's Rule then you never have to fear about any updates

    Regards
    ~Sam~

if you keep creating great content then your not going to go far wrong

also the way im looking link building now is im spending more time trying to get very high quality links. The harder a link is to get then the more weight it will carry

this has always been true to a degree but now i feel its even more important because google have clamped down on all the private networks

guest posting is one of the most important link building methods which you should be including into your link building campaigns

your best off to spend a day creating a killer article for a guest post where you get a couple of strong links than you are to just buy a few low quality fiverr link building gigs and build 5k links in a couple of hours

Of course they want to put you to pay for your clicks, ultimately that's how they make their money.

However I think that recent algo updates, especially Panda and Penguin that focus primarily on quality (onsite and offsite respectively) are more for the end user than for screwing you. In order to retain their #1 search dominance they have to provide the best possible results for their users (Googlers).

This totally makes sense as they just like everybody else are trying to make more and more money. I wonder if my places page will one day cost?

Um..what about the sites that took your place in the SERPS? They may take away your traffic but they are giving it to someone else. I am a big fan of the updates. I've seen a bunch of my keywords jump to the front page and see all the crap sites (links, content) fall back.
