Links in profiles after Penguin.. ineffective?

Hi everyone,

do you still think profiles are well considered by Google after Penguin?

I guess these were/are the best way to get high quality backlinks (and they stay live for a long time) but.. Google can find they're links in profiles easily (url contains always "users" or "profiles" for example), and they say they are doing a job to do ineffective some linking techniques and I had some site hit where I was doing nice high quality profiles (and getting excellent results!).

Any experience, what do you think?

Thanks

Personally haven't seen any positive effects of using profile links anymore. Mainly using web 2.0 with unique content and added videos. This is your way forward.

First of all, there is no such thing as high quality profile links. They are trash.

Secondly, they haven't been effective for a long time before Penguin ever came out.

Just stick with high quality and unique content. These will always help improving your ranking and will get quality backlinks by itself.

In fact, I am now trying to remove the profile links built. Better not to do it if you really want to brand your site because it looks spammy anyway.

profile links have had zero value for quite a while. They are complete junk and cause your backlink profile to look spammy and unnatural. How people manage to sell these links i'll never know.

Contextual backlinks would be great.. You should try it rather than profile links.

As Mike said above, profile links have been ineffective for quite some time, and are considered a negative blow by some.

Profiles haven't worked well in awhile, IMO.

And I've always been annoyed at people passing them off as "high PR" backlinks. A backlink on a PR N/A profile page is NOT a high PR backlink, even if the domain is PR5, PR6, etc.

It's called "pagerank" and not "domainrank," "siterank," etc.

I always diversify my backlinking methods and my anchor texts......however the majority of my backlinks are forum profiles and they're doing well

I don't think that is ineffective when your link building strategy contains other methods of link building to get more links.

Hell no, don't waste your time manually building profile links.

They are a waste of time, and the work required to index them is ridiculous. That time could be spent creating valuable content for your site, guest blogging or a number of other crazy effective methods for driving traffic and getting links.

Profile links have been mostly dead for over a year now at least as in comparison to how effective they were in the past. Prior to some of the tweaks in recent years, sites were regularly ranked with just profile links, but the general consensus from SEO forums and experts is that they are of low if any value now.

As tier 3 or 4 links or for building IP link diversity they could be tried, but don't blast direct to your main site with them.
